Position Summary Greets all persons who present to the Admissions department, provides information in a HIPAA-compliant manner, escorts/transports patients/guests to their destinations by appropriate methods (ambulation or wheelchair). Monitors dedicated physician hotline for quick encounter creation. Ensures accurate demographic, emergency contact and billing information is entered in the computer system in the prescribed manner. Obtains picture ID to ensure adherence to the Red Flag Rule. Coordinates bed placement and physician orders with Bed Control always communicating any delays to the patient/family as well as leadership. Processes scheduled patients by performing telephone pre-registration, verifying insurance benefits and checking medical necessity. Prepares an estimate of the amount the patient will owe according to their specific payer contract and makes payment arrangements with the guarantor. Prepares a complete packet of all necessary documents for expedited check in when the patient arrives. Balances daily cash deposit by area. Performs daily census reconciliation. Utilizes the AHI QA system and resolves all registration edit errors daily. Explains and obtains signatures on all applicable forms. Assists in chart audits to ensure quality and compliance. Converts diagnosis to ICD9 to perform medical necessity checks as necessary. Converts procedures to CPT and utilizes the Med Assets CarePricer to prepare estimates according to payer contracts. This position has exposure to communicable disease and body fluids. This position requires the ability to alternate frequently among sitting, standing and walking short distances. Specific Educational and Skill Competencies Required The position requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and communicate effectively, as usually demonstrated by completion of high school studies or a GED and one year of experience in a office setting. This position requires strong customer service skills, telephone courtesy skills, ability to keyboard or type 40+ wpm, strong computer skills and the ability to multi task In addition, familiarity with medical terminology, CPT and ICD9 coding is strongly preferred.
