- Create and maintain natural language processing (NLP) capabilities to support the organization in areas such as operational efficiency, fraud detection and other insurance claim outcomes.
- In partnership with business and analytics leaders, define a vision for the use of NLP in the generation of data-driven insights. Set standards and lead the effective adoption of NLP within the data science organization. Provide recommendations on the most impactful uses of text data. Work independently and act as an NLP expert.
- Develop text features that are widely available to the suite of the predictive models. Support the training and deployment of predictive models. Build pipelines and processes, following data engineering best practices.
- Research both standard and cutting-edge tools and techniques. Provide recommendations to changes in the analytics environment. Experiment with algorithms and tools to continually improve on existing processes.
QUALIFICATIONS - Modeling software: Strong skills with python, as well as experience with NLTK, spaCy, or another NLP library. Skills with Spark or Pyspark is strongly preferred. Experience with frameworks such as Keras, TensorFlow, or Pytorch is a plus.
- AWS or other cloud computing environments
- Solid coding skills and proficient with at least one programming language (C++, Java, Python, Scala, etc.)
- Software development and code versioning skills using Git
- Ability to work with various data formats from delimited text files to ODBC connections, data frames and relational databases
- Excellent overall communication skills, particularly possessing the ability to translate technical results for wide audiences
- Graduate degree in a quantitative field preferred: Mathematics, Statistics, CS, Physics etc.
- 6+ years experience in a data science environment; some interaction with the Property and Casualty insurance industry is a bonus
- 2+ years experience of applied NLP in a non-academic setting
Education: University - Bachelor`s Degree/3-4 Year Degree
