JOB DESCRIPTION

Principal Purification Scientist

Greater Philadelphia, PA (Horsham)

Global, 50+ year old, specialized contract laboratory testing and research services business has an immediate need for a full-time, direct hire Principal Purification Scientist in the greater Philadelphia, PA area for a leading pharmaceutical company. We are also looking for a Team Lead for this group, if you are interested in leadership opportunities.

  • Seeking chromatography, filtration, and statistical expertise in support of commercial manufacturing, process validation and process improvement.

  • Optimization of upstream & downstream processes (lab scale through commercialization), DOE creation

Select Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute experiments in support of the commercial manufacturing process (development, scale up, and troubleshooting/deviations)

  • Design/execute purification optimization of existing process unit operations and design new unit operations, as needed for 2nd generation manufacturing process

  • Support protein purification/isolation and characterization work and perform analytical analysis in support of experiments

  • Identify and support improvements to the commercial manufacturing process, focusing on increased product yield or quality improvements, increased efficiency or simplification of operations, risk mitigation, and/or reduced cycle time

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality Control, R&D, Validation, and Quality Assurance on projects and initiatives

  • Support the QC unit in laboratory investigations, test plans, out of specification results, and changes in test methods

QUALIFICATIONS

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required, advanced degrees (MS,PhD) desired but not required

  • Subject matter expertise in protein purification technologies including all modes of column chromatography (ion exchange, hydrophobic interaction, affinity, size exclusion) and filtration (single pass, tangential flow)

  • Experience with experimental design, PAT and QbD principles

  • Strong knowledge of cGMP and FDA and international regulations

  • Strong knowledge of process technology, development, and validation practices for biopharmaceutical products

  • Preferred experience with protein chemistry, characterization, and analytical methods, including SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, spectrophotometric assays, and RP-HPLC

  • Demonstrated proficiency with interpretation of data, statistical analysis of data, and presenting data in a format that satisfies the objective of the team and drives decisions and/or supports projects

  • Knowledge of scalable bioprocess purification and filtration strategies

  • Knowledge of microbial fermentation processes for expression of proteins

  • Experience working with BSL-2 organisms and general safe laboratory practices for fermentation processes

Ability to work independently, without a lot of supervision Role can be a TEAM LEAD

University - Bachelor`s Degree/3-4 Year Degree
