Position Summary:

The Statutory Accountant will be an integral member of the Finance Department and responsible for completing key parts of the monthly accounting close and quarterly / annual statutory statements. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of both statutory and GAAP accounting principles and be highly motivated. Qualified applicants must be detail-oriented, committed to accuracy, and effective communicators within the team and throughout the organization.


Performs monthly financial close functions in accordance with statutory/GAAP requirements

Books journal entries and completes reconciliations as part of the close process

Prepares quarterly and annual statutory statements

Addresses reinsurance reporting needs and billing submissions

Investigates accounting or data issues and identifies solutions, working with other departments as needed

Processes state filings as necessary

Contributes knowledge and expertise in the application of accounting principles

Reports directly to the Controller

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong knowledge of statutory and GAAP accounting principles

In-depth knowledge of products and concepts relating to the P&C industry

Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy

Self-starter and highly motivated

Ability to work under pressure to meet goals and deadlines

Critical thinker and problem solver

Strong oral and written communication skills

Advanced Excel skills and technology proficient

Experience and Education:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance

Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting

Insurance industry experience required

CPA designation preferred

Experience with Sage X3 a plus
