Description:
As a Digital Control Specialist, (DCS) this role is responsible for ensuring that critical Digital Controls Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers and other digital based systems functionality and operability are properly installed, configured and maintained to ensure reliable operation of the plant. The DCS will be involved in both expense and capital based projects and endeavors. The DCS will perform technical installation and configuration tasks and conduct software and hardware maintenance and troubleshooting efforts associated with these and other critical instrumentation systems including specifically ; Honeywell and Triconex control systems, Allen Bradley PLC control systems, Allen Bradley digital based variable frequency AC motor drive units, SCI uninterruptible power delivery systems (UPS), backup battery systems, alarm annunciation systems, industrial control and data networks, telecommunications infrastructure and video system components and associated infrastructure, field instrumentation and sensor project installations.

Decisions and/or Business Results this role is Accountable for:
  • Developing and implementing job plans for control system installation and expansion, automation, instrumentation and electrical technical projects. Key tasks include project development, project implementation, project commissioning and project documentation.
  • Specification and procurement of industrial controls, instrumentation and electrical automation devices and infrastructure required to implement technical project initiatives.
  • Determination and manipulation of control system status to safely accommodate maintenance tasks and special condition situations.
  • Determine window of opportunity in which to perform preventative maintenance and project tie-ins to minimize facility impact.
  • Coordinate with other crafts to maintain equipment installation and or startup schedules.

Education, Experience, Technical Skills:
  • Five years or more experience in DCS, PLC and associated digital systems implementation, commissioning and maintenance in an industrial setting.
  • Documented experience in industrial instrumentation construction, startup or maintenance tasks.
  • Documented experience designing, installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, or repairing:
  • Cable tray and conduit infrastructure elements.
  • Electrical system protective controls or power quality systems.
  • DCS and PLC wiring infrastructure.
  • General instrumentation including thermocouples, transmitters, switches, valves etc.
  • UPS and battery backup systems.
  • Industry accepted copper and fiber optic cabling and connection systems.
  • Network and telecommunications hardware and infrastructure components.
  • Video surveillance hardware and infrastructure components.
  • Documented experience in loop testing and startup of DCS and PLC system conversions, additions or modifications.
  • Documented or demonstrated PC skills required to effectively utilize purchasing, documentation, maintenance, budgeting and reporting software applications.
