Advanced Technology Engineer (Mechanical
Job Location: ST. JOSEPH, MI
Experience: 5-10 years of experience
This is an exciting new function within the Advanced Technology Engineering Group to drive the exploration of new, emerging, existing technologies, and develop conceptual designs to offer innovative product solutions for core product categories.
Job Overview:
The Advanced Technology Engineer will be a critical member of the Advanced Technology Engineering (ATE) group. Key activities and responsibilities will include: working intimately with the business teams to assess consumer gaps and market needs, exploration of technologies applications, development of concept solutions, development of preliminary product specifications, and managing projects through product development tollgates.
In this position, youll have the opportunity to:
Analyze competitive product (benchmarking):
oProduct tear-downs, and reporting
oProduct performance assessment
oComparative matrices
oCost analysis
Participate in long range strategic product planning activities
Develop and own Technology Roadmap plans and Intellectual Property (IP) Strategy
Explore new, emerging, and current technologies and their applications
Develop preliminary product specifications with critical characteristics
Develop breakthrough solutions to meet difficult requirements (Performance, Usability, Design Robustness, Cost, Speed to Market)
Coordinate cross-functional inputs and requirements to assess feasibility of future projects
What you need to succeed in this position:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum five years experience in product development
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to work independently and as a self-starter
Understanding of manufacturing and assembly process limitations
Experience with material selection (performancevscost etc)
Creative thinker
Ability to assess risk
Ability to find and assess suitability of new technologies
Ability to lead work of others
Global team experience preferred
