Job Description:
The selected Electrical Controls Engineer for a position located at our headquarters in Vandalia, OH to support our growing needs. The ideal candidate will work on assigned projects to develop scopes of work, systems operations, electrical and controls designs of equipment utilizing AutoCAD as well as MS Office products and PLC programming software. This will include the review/red lining of P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, detail mechanical drawings, and controls ladder diagrams, as well as development of equipment submittal packages, bills of materials, programming, design calculations, and equipment manuals.
Job Responsibilities
To interact with the sales staff and engineering group to determine/verify project scope and operation. To work with the assigned engineers and engineering techs to design and detail new projects in both AutoCAD 2D and specific PLC/HMI programming software. To run basic hand calculations to size and select equipment such as transformers, motor disconnects, switches, etc. Work with engineering team, procurement team and suppliers to gather the information required to create the detailed designs inputted into the drawings, programming, and BOM. Participation and leading of project review meetings to help determine the designs to be detailed, and changes/updates that will need to be documented in CAD, on design calculations, and in the BOM. Maintain solid communications and relationships with customers. Develop and deliver equipment/control submittal drawings and required support documentation.
To perform sign-off for a drawing release to manufacturing/field. To work with manufacturing on the construction and assembly of projects on the shop floor. To finalize the as-built design documentation. To perform final calibrations and setups of all electrical equipment. To perform the final testing and validation of the PLC/HMI and associated controls, with assistance of other engineers as required. To review a released project on the floor and sign off on the manufacturing of the product from both a functional and quality aspect. To assist with the final project close out documentation updates. Write functional equipment manuals for designed equipment. To aid in the development of methods and procedures used to create and archive electronic CAD and programming designs. Knowledge of key design standards including UL, CSA, NEMA, NFPA 79, IEC, ASTM, ANSI, etc. And other responsibilities assigned to insure the timely completion of projects.
Qualifications:
Preference is a four year degree in electrical/controls engineering or similar program with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience Proficient with AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD electrical a plus. Previous experience with AB and other PLC and HMI software. Can perform design calculations for a variety of electrical devices. Has basic technical writing skills and can write technical reports and documents.
Proficient with the use of other key software programs including: MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel. Limited supervision is required. Travel of up to 25 will be required. Has the ability to learn quickly and advance upon what has been learned. Requires good communications skills.
