Position Overview:
Oversees the Environmental Services Department and all related environmental service activities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES JOB DUTIES AND PROJECTS:
1. Establish priorities for day-to-day operations depending upon the needs of the institution.
2. Effectively review cleaning and project schedules making sure they are in compliance with standard productivity rates.
3. Ensure that all supplies are available to meet the needs of assignments by inventory and order.
4. Establish effective organized training program for employees and monitors progress by ways of standard measure.
5. Monitor employee performance ensuring that they are meeting expectation and standards of the institution using quality checklist for measuring these standards.
6. Actively review customer surveys with the department and responds in a timely and effective manner. Meet with department directors/customers in a timely manner to instill that needs and services are being met.
7. Ensure that medical and bio-hazard waste safety and infection training is in compliance with all regulatory agencies: KDHE; JCAHO; EPA.
8. Establish preventive maintenance program/checklist on equipment by way of training and monitoring.
HUMAN RESOURCES:
9. Schedule staff to meet department responsibilities with consideration of employee needs; ensure that staff schedules are posted at least two weeks in advance.
10. Adjust staffing for daily based work load. Inform staff of productivity rates and provide training to meet those expectations.
11. Conduct a minimum of one staff meeting per month to maintain effective communication to include in-service training. Make copies of in-service and minutes available to staff.
12. Ensure that a current job description which defines the functions responsibilities and qualifications for each position exists for each employee of the department and is available at the time of hiring. Also that these descriptions are reviewed and revised as necessary using them for evaluations.
13. Act a role model for staff in the area of customer service and overall performance.
MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISION:
14. Meet deadlines for routine responsibilities and special projects.
15. Develop plans objectives and goals for the betterment of the organization by way of monitoring and measuring needs of the department and institution.
16. Maintain up-to-date administrative/human resource policy and procedure manual within the department for all employees; ensure compliance of those policies.
17. Communicate routinely with Senior Vice President of Finance/CFO as needed.
18. Consistently seeks cost-containment ideas for implementation. Actively seeking revenue generating concepts.
19. Actively serves on committees as needed or requested to help with growth and development of the organization. Chair of the Environment of Care Safety Committee. FISCAL ISSUES:
20. Prepare annual budget for department.
21. Maintain budgeted ratio of revenue/expenses.
REGULATORY BODIES:
22. Ensure that all required safety education is provided. (ie code red code green safety program hazardous materials program risk management etc.).
23. Ensure compliance with hospital local state and federal regulations JCAHO EPA KDHE and OSHA and that the department safety manual is readily available and updated annually.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in business economics hotel management or related field or equivalent combination of experience and certification in field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Three years’ experience in environmental services management in a healthcare setting or major hospital facility.
