Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Communications Security (COMSEC) Alternate.
Responsibilities
Communications Security Alternate responsible for the receipt, deployment, support, maintenance and destruction of all cryptographic equipment at the Laboratory.
Deploy authorized cryptographic equipment, keying material and sensitive systems in support of sponsored programs.
Ensure the receipt, safeguarding, accountability, destruction and keying of cryptographic items.
Coordinate and implement Department of Defense (DoD) exercise programs, organize systems and integrate programs to meet the consumer requirements.
Conduct inventory as required and reconcile all discrepancies with the Central Office of Records.
Signature Authority for Lab wide purchases of Cryptographic Controlled items.
Qualifications
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
5 years of experience in a Communications Security (COMSEC) environment.
Working knowledge of Communications Security (COMSEC) and Electronic Keying Material System (EKMS).
General knowledge of DoD landline/satellite, data, message and voice systems.
Prior experience in processing classified cryptographic communications material and devices.
A general understanding of the National Industrial Security Program Manual (NISPOM).
Highly honed people skills for interaction with co-workers and Communications Center COMSEC customers.
Must be eligible for DOD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination.
Desired: Prior military service experience.
Familiar with DoD security procedures when dealing with COMSEC.
Special Work Conditions
Must be flexible to occasional `after hours' calls in support of special projects utilizing any and all COMSEC related items. This includes occasional, but infrequent 24/7 on-call work.
Willing to travel, to attend annual or quarterly conferences.
Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Must be eligiable for DOD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination.
