Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Lead Payload System Engineer.
Responsibilities
The Johns Hopkins University/Applied Physics Laboratory, a leader in developing and operating unique space systems, seeks a Lead Payload Systems Engineer with specific experience in the design of EO/IR systems. This position will provide overall leadership and technical expertise in payload development for an NSS space mission. The successful candidate will have experience in the technical and management aspects of designing a complex EO/IR system and knowledge of the missile defense community. Play a leading role in the definition of end-to-end payload concepts in the design, development, fabrication, integration, test, and delivery of payloads that meet sponsor requirements. Support external technical and program coordination meetings. Lead development of programmatic related documentation for sensor payloads. Translate concepts into hardware and software concepts. Develop payload test concepts and requirements, top level test plans and the designs of tests that show requirements are met.
Qualifications
Required:
M.S. in engineering or related technical discipline.
10 years experience or more working in spacecraft systems and design and integration of EO/IR payloads.
Experience with Missile Defense Agency and its roles in the design and acquisition of EO/IR payloads for complex missile defense systems.
Desired:
PhD in engineering or related technical discipline
Knowledge of the Missile Defense Agency organizational environments and structure, understanding of programs and requirements in the missile defense community
Experience with MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Project
TS/SCI clearance
Security
