Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Mass Spectrometer Design Engineer.

Responsibilities
Position is to lead or provide critical design support for the ion trap mass spectrometer for the MOMA instrument. Successful candidate will be expected to submit and win proposals for future mass spectrometer work. Design of the MOMA ion trap mass spectrometer. Prepare and submit proposals for future mass spectrometry work and other astrobiology related instrumentation. Design of grant funded mass spectrometers and astrobiology related instrumentation.

Qualifications
Required: The candidate must have MS in Chemistry or Biology or equivalent with at least 5 years experience in the design and development of mass spectrometers. He/she must have experience in writing proposals and must possess good verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Desired: The candidate should have PhD in Chemistry or Biology or equivalent with at least 10 years experience in the design and development of mass spectrometers, preferably with some experience in the design of ion trap mass spectrometers.

Special Work Conditions

Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
