Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Power System Engineer.

Responsibilities
Perform analysis, design, and concept definition of power systems for shipboard, active phased array radars and electronic warfare (EW) systems.

Duties:
Participate in multi-organizational power system working groups and Integrated Product Teams in support of advanced phased array radar development programs. Develop, analyze, review, build and test power system concepts for advanced active phased array radar & EW systems. Perform power system trade studies. Develop power system modeling and simulation tools. Provide general consultation on power related issues to support ongoing departmental work.

Qualifications

Required:
M.S. in Electrical Engineering with 5 years work experience in power systems. Strong analytical background in AC/DCconverters and low cost, high power density, DC/DC converters. Knowledge of various converter topologies, such as: Flyback, Full Bridge, Half Bridge, etc. Experience with average and peak power system designs. Design of high efficiency, high power magnetics and filters. Understanding of advanced power packaging techniques and familiarity with RF and EMI issues.

Desired:
Applied knowledge of high volume, low cost production techniques to power systems for military applications. Experience with circuit design for high power, high efficiency power supplies with switching rates from 100 kHz to 2 MHz MHz. Knowledge of Navy shipboard power generation and distribution systems and flight vehicle power distribution systems. Knowledge of advanced battery systems including thermal battery technologies and Li Ion technologies.

Special Work Conditions

Occasional travel to external technical review meetings required.
