Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Network Security Engineer.
Responsibilities
Perform network monitoring and incident response. Manage security and network devices. Assess security posture of infrastructure and develop secure infrastructure enhancements and extensions. Evaluate, procure, install, and maintain network security solutions. Participate in Incident Response Team, security audits, and assessment activities. Compile and represent event data for trend analysis and reporting. Employ visualization tools and develop analytical procedures.
Perform network intrusion detection, network traffic monitoring, incident response. Investigate system incidents and participate in security audits and assessments. Maintain current knowledge of security issues. Conduct forensic analysis and document incidents. Install and maintain security application software. Maintain security devices, routers, switches, and VPN Concentrators. Apply unix and Windows OS upgrades and system patches as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
BS/BA in computer science, engineering, or equivalent years of networking experience. Five plus years of relevant IT network security experience. Independent, self-starting problem solver with strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent working knowledge of TCP/IP, network operations and monitoring, firewalls and routers, Windows and Unix system administration. Knowledge of and proven ability to understand and handle current security trends, hacker exploits and best security practices. Ability to multitask and make good decisions, determine priorities and meet deadlines. Able to work effectively independently, with customers, and as part of a small team.
Desired: One or more current certifications:
GIAC, CCNA, MCSE, CISSP. Scripting and PERL a plus
Special Work Conditions
Work week is Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Security
