Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Knowledge Manager.
Responsibilities
Supports business area content managers and users make effective use of enterprise content management and collaboration tools. Support business area content managers and contributors create, revise, and manage technical content to ensure consistency and best practices are applied across the enterprise. Evaluate user needs and business processes to assess for appropriate tool applications and process improvements as required. Support APL staff make effective use of enterprise content management and collaboration tools including providing individual and group training. Document existing processes and evaluate process interactions; recommend any enhancements and opportunities for improvement. Contribute to the dissemination of information about the organization's knowledge sharing initiatives and successes across the enterprise and, when appropriate, to external audiences.
Qualifications
Required:
BS/BA degree required in Knowledge Management, Information Management, Management Science, Computer Science or equivalent experience in related disciplines. Minimum of 7 years of professional work experience with at least 5 years in a related field. Demonstrable experience managing organizational knowledge assets using enterprise content, document, or records management systems. Understanding of information management standards and best practices, particularly in areas of content management systems, metadata, taxonomies, and information lifecycle management. Excellent communications skills. Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously with great efficiency and attention to detail. Ability to function successfully in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment and influence team members without formal authority.
Desired:
MA/MS preferred in Knowledge Management, Information Management, Management Science, Computer Science or equivalent experience in related disciplines. Experience developing team collaboration environments using Microsoft SharePoint. Experience working in a large research and development organization.
