Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Information Architect.
Responsibilities
Support the design and implementation of a framework that defines the basic structure, content and relationships of technical and business information to ensure that information can be easily found by the user. Provides information architecture expertise to contribute to the establishment and maintenance of design and navigational consistency across knowledge sharing and collaboration environments. Defines and represents the customer and stakeholder needs, tasks, and goals, and translate them into site functionality, site architecture, navigation, interaction and data flow.
Acts as a user advocate. Collaborates with project teams to define strategy as well as site architecture and navigation, map out user flow and experience and define high-level interaction. Collaborates with IT development teams to plan the manner in which the front-end user-interfaces interact with the underlying systems. Conducts ongoing usability testing and assessment. Contributes to the overall strategic direction and vision of enterprise knowledge sharing and collaboration. Defines, collects and reports metrics for assessing ROI.
Qualifications
Required:
Minimum BS/BA degree required, with multidisciplinary backgrounds in such areas as psychology, human factors, organizational development, knowledge management or information management. Minimum of 5 years of professional work experience with at least 3 years in a related field. Ability to present, instruct and interact with personnel at all levels. Strong project management, organizational skills and attention to detail. Conceptually proficient and able to understand the capabilities of many software platforms including content management systems, collaboration or groupware systems, intranets, and internet technologies. Excellent communication skills. Strong understanding of the role of information and technology in the management and operation of the organization. Ability to function successfully in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment and influence team members without formal authority.
Desired:
MA/MS in psychology, human factors, organizational development, knowledge management or information management. Experience developing team collaboration environments using Microsoft SharePoint. Experience working in a large research and development organization.
