Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Microsoft Exchange Administrator.
Responsibilities
Work with the Collaboration team members to provide support to administer our MS Exchange 2003 and 2007 environments for the Laboratory's Windows infrastructure. Day to day operation of Exchange environments which includes change, release, performance, and availability management. Trouble shoot errors or performance degradation, determine the source, and then correct the problem. Work with team members to share operational information about Exchange. Understand the suite of Microsoft Collaboration products and aid in resolving issues with these products as a valued member of the Collaboration team. Work with team members to share operational information about Exchange. Develop and maintain documentation related to the installation, administration, and maintenance of our Exchange environments. Assist with the planning and design of future services.
Qualifications
Required:
B.S. in IT related field or equivalent years experience.
At least 5 years experience supporting Microsoft Exchange. Complete working knowledge and ability to effectively manage Exchange 2003 in a large scale environment of more than 4000 mailboxes. This includes knowledge and use of antivirus products and spam filters.
Demonstrated ability to trouble shoot errors and determine the correct source as the Windows Operating System environment, other software, or hardware. Able to independently resolve complex problems using current job knowledge, research data, and external resources.
Working knowledge of Active Directory (AD), understand its components and organizational structure. Be able to work with AD for Exchange related tasks.
Working knowledge of PowerShell, Windows 2003 R2 and how it impacts Exchange, Microsoft Outlook client, and Outlook Web Access.
Understand the security risks to an Exchange server and be able to assist with implementation and maintenance of components and applications to protect systems from virus, spyware, and hackers.
Self-motivated and able to work in a team environment with the ability to interface with all levels of staff.
Strong written and presentation skills which will be used to document analysis and to give technical presentations.
Desired:
Masters degree in Information Technology or related field.
At least 8 years experience supporting Microsoft Exchange.
Experience with Exchange 2007 in a large scale environment.
Working knowledge of performance analysis and health monitoring tools for Exchange.
Candidate should have some experience working with AntiSpam and email firewall technologies. Background in Secure Computing IronMail would be a plus.
Experience with DNS and/or Storage Management.
Technical leadership experience.
