Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Strategic Communications Engineer.
Responsibilities
Conduct and supervise analysis of strategic communications systems and architectures (Very Low Frequency through Extremely High Frequency) and participate in long-term planning studies of these systems.Collect, analyze and evaluate current and recent past performance of designated communications systems. Compare this data to appropriate operations requirements. Identify all areas that do not meet requirements. Provide detailed, prioritized recommendations to enhance system performance. Develop optimized data acquisition systems for various strategic platforms to include equipment and software. In conjunction with the government sponsor, develop acquisition solutions for new equipment or modifications to existing equipment. Conduct surveys of the user communities for the equipments of interest. Provide support and advice regarding Information Operations technical tests and meetings.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline and 4-6 years of work experience in the communications field. In-depth knowledge of strategic communications systems (VLF through EHF). Proven leadership capability. Ability to do independent technical work.
Desired:
M.S. in the telecommunications field. Strategic command and control systems expertise. Ability to communicate technical information. Experience with radio frequency performance testing and a working knowledge of electromagnetic propagation theory.
Special Work Conditions
Ability to travel inside and outside the continental United States.
Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination. Preference for current SSBI.
