Location: JFK Elementary School – Winooski School District
Reports to: School Principal
Position Objectives:
The Assistant Principal at JFK Elementary School plays a vital role in supporting the Principal and Co-Principal with leadership across instructional programs, school culture, student services, family engagement, and day-to-day operations. This position collaborates with school staff, families, and district leadership to foster an inclusive, safe, and equitable learning environment for all students (PK–5). The Assistant Principal shares responsibility for school improvement planning, staff development, operational management, and community partnership efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the Principal and Co-Principal in providing leadership across instructional programs, school culture, student services, family engagement, and daily operations.
- Demonstrate cultural awareness and build strong, respectful relationships with students, families, and staff in a highly diverse school community.
- Serve as a key point of contact for family and staff concerns, ensuring clear, timely, and effective communication.
- Analyze, share, and utilize data to inform decision-making, guide professional development and PLCs, and improve student outcomes.
- Commitment to supporting culturally responsive teaching practices and helping create equity-focused learning environments.
- Participate actively in a variety of school-based teams and meetings, including parent meetings, to promote strong family-school partnerships.
- Confidently lead meetings, deliver presentations, and facilitate high-quality professional development.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in managing multiple priorities and responding to the dynamic needs of the school.
- Use digital tools effectively for communication, scheduling, data analysis, and professional development coordination.
- Bring a deep understanding of early childhood and elementary education best practices.

Job Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
- Valid Vermont State certification as a school administrator (or eligibility to obtain certification).
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in grades PK–5.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in an educational setting.
