Job Details:
The Assistant Director of Pharmacy assumes an active role in the management of patient drug therapy and the provision of pharmaceutical care. Assist in the supervising and coordinating of activities of the Pharmacy Department. Perform the duties of the Director of Pharmacy in his/her absence and perform the duties of the staff pharmacist as necessary. Actively report to the Pharmacy Director.
• Dispense all medications necessary for appropriate patient care and compound all products required.
• Prepare work schedules for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
• Oversee operation of the department and assist the director in the development and implementation of pharmacy policies and procedures.
• Responsible for directly supervising the work of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
• Responsible as a clinical resource in development and maintenance of the pharmacy computer system.
• Actively participate in management of patient drug therapy (i.e., kinetics, antibiotic streamlining, formulary management).
• Provide drug information services as required.
• Actively participate in departmental programs for drug interventions, DUR, ADR, AQ, in-service education, etc.
• Responsible for assessment of patient drug therapy, reviewing for drug interactions, incompatibilities, drug induced adverse effects, appropriate drug doses, appropriate ordering of serum drug levels and drug medication history.
• Monitor the records of controlled substances issued to patient care areas.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements:
• Must be a graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
• Must have current pharmacist license in state of Connecticut.
• Minimum 3 years hospital pharmacy experience with progressive management experience.
• Advanced degree and/or PharmD degree preferred.
• Ability to verbally communicate effectively with multiple levels of personnel/interdisciplinary teams, with tact and confidentiality.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
• Knowledge of pharmacy information systems,
• Must be proficient in all aspects of compounding, preparing and dispensing drugs.
• Must have working knowledge of federal and state laws as they pertain to drug procurement, storage, dispensing, etc.
• Must be able to make decisions concerning matters requiring immediate attention in absence of the pharmacy director.
• Must be willing to maintain appropriate knowledge to provide state of the art service.
• Must demonstrate ability to maintain a collaborative practice relationship with physicians and other health care professionals.
