Position Summary:
The Director of Corporate Responsibility and Responsibility Officer (Director) for the Via Christi Regional Medical Center (VCRMC) oversees all activities related to the corporate responsibility function including but not limited to compliance conflicts of interest standards of conduct reporting of issues and concerns and other activities requiring responsible corporate behavior. Consistent with the Via Christi Corporate Responsibility Program Operating Model the Director will report to the Corporate Responsibility Officer for VCHS and focus on the VCRMC ministry (all campuses).
The Director ensures an ongoing culture of compliance and prevention of illegal unethical or improper or inappropriate conduct. The Director functions as an objective reviewer and evaluator of compliance and privacy issues and concerns within VCRMC. Responsible for ensuring that policies and procedures are followed and that behavior in the organization meets the expectations and requirements set forth in applicable laws regulations policies and standards of accrediting agencies as well as the Via Christi Standards of Conduct. The Director will advise and collaborate with other management and staff to promote a culture of compliance solve compliance issues and concerns receive and investigate reports and advocate and protect patient privacy and the security of protected health information.
Key Responsibilities. Under the supervision of the VP of Corporate Responsibility the Director will:
·Manage the day-to-day operations of the Corporate Responsibility Program at VCRMC fostering operations’ participation in the Program building a culture of compliance and monitoring compliance with applicable laws regulations policies and standards of accrediting agencies and the Via Christi Standards of Conduct.
·Proactively develop methodologies and participate in operations so as to mitigate or eliminate detect and correct compliance risks.
·Oversee the VCRMC corporate responsibility committee. Assist the committee with the development and implementation of the annual compliance environmental risk assessment metrics of effectiveness and work plan.
·Ensure adherence to policies and procedures related to corporate responsibility.
·Collaborate as appropriate with the VCRMC executive management team and directors to assure consistency in leadership approach and positive culture development.
·Provide reports on a regular basis and as directed and / or requested to the Vice President of Corporate Responsibility to keep the Wichita Health Network Audit Committee and the Via Christi Health Audit Committee informed about the operation and effectiveness of Corporate Responsibility (and privacy) at VCRMC.
·Assist with implementation of appropriate Corporate Responsibility education (including new employee orientation) and training modules as developed for the program. Identify and provide focused training when requested. Track and report educational activities.
·Participate in the ongoing monitoring processes including monitoring within the revenue cycle and coordinate compliance reviews with the VCHS Director of Corporate Responsibility Program Effectiveness.
·Ensure all hotline calls are investigated appropriately and resolved. Document the investigation findings and responses in a written report to the VP of Corporate Responsibility. Prepare a quarterly summary hotline report for the WHN Audit Committee.
·Maintain activity logs documenting identification investigation and resolution of compliance issues as they are identified and addressed.
·Provide ongoing advice and resources to management for compliance and privacy issues (collaborating with the Director of HIM) and process monitoring and improvement and work with management to implement these improvements.
·When requested by the VP of Corporate Responsibility interact with legal counsel government agencies/contractors compliance committees senior management employees vendors and providers to ensure an understanding of the organization’s initiatives towards compliance.
·Advise and collaborate to ensure that the organization has and maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality consent authorization and other forms notices and like materials reflecting
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
· Bachelor Degree required. Master Degree or JD preferred. Certified in Healthcare Compliance required (will permit to obtain after hire).
· Experience required in healthcare regulatory compliance, risk management, clinical quality assurance, audit, law, or similar field.
· Demonstrated knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and fraud and abuse laws.
· Detailed knowledge and familiarity with HIPAA privacy and security laws and regulations.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to motivate and persuade personnel.
· Clear, concise, and persuasive writing and presentation skills.
· Demonstrates unwavering personal and organizational ethical standards.
· Good problem solver, systems thinking skills.
· Decisive and capable of exercising good judgment under pressure.
· Strong orientation to deadline and detail.
· Ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload.
· Ability to interact with executives, directors and staff as well as clinical personnel and physicians.
· Word processing PC skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite, knowledge of how to use office equipment (copiers, fax machines, telephones, etc.).
· A personal presence, characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, core values and goals of Via Christi Health (VCRMC).
Physical Requirements
· Must be able to travel occasionally throughout Via Christi Health System.
· Must be able to adapt to frequently changing work parameters.
