Description:
The Department of Political Science at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in southern studies. The appointment will be in the Department of Political Science, but the successful candidate is expected to contribute to programs in the Diane D. Blair Center of Southern Politics and Society. This position will be filled by an individual at the assistant professor level who shows considerable promise in teaching, research and service related to southern studies. It is important that this individual approach the study of southern studies from an interdisciplinary perspective and be able to teach courses in southern studies at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The holder will work closely with the Blair Center to assist the Director in bringing additional visibility to the Center, the Department of Political Science, Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, and the University. This individual will work closely with related units on campus, such as African American Studies and the Departments of History and English.
Areas of expertise within southern studies are open. While successful candidates will be interdisciplinary in their training, research agenda and teaching capacities, applicants are expected to teach introductory American National Government and/or introductory Comparative Politics
Minimum Requirements:
Successful candidates will hold a doctorate in political science or a related interdisciplinary degree by the time of their appointment in August 2010. Applicants must produce evidence of an active research agenda and indicate a commitment to the larger departmental mission.
