The region is one of the fastest-growing in the U.S., has one of the nation’s lowest unemployment rates, and hosts the headquarters of two Fortune 500 companies. Situated in the Ozark Mountains, Fayetteville and the surrounding area offer numerous cultural activities and outdoor recreational opportunities.

Description:
The University of Arkansas invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Education and Health Professions (COEHP). This is an opportunity for an outstanding leader to guide a college focused on educating the professionals of tomorrow in areas of critical societal need. By having education and health profession disciplines in the same college, opportunities for innovative delivery models and synergies can be explored.

The Dean of COEHP is the chief academic administrative officer of the College and reports directly to the Provost and Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The College consists of the departments of Curriculum and Instruction; Education Reform; Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance; Intramural/ Recreational Sports; Rehabilitation, Human Resources and Communication Disorders; Eleanor Mann School of Nursing, the Honors Program, and several academic and research centers. The College provides an extensive array of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. With approximately 80 full-time faculty and 102 FTE staff, it enrolls over 2,200 undergraduates and 920 graduate students. The COEHP has an endowment of approximately $34 million.

This is a 12-month position at the rank of professor.

Minimum Requirements:
Candidates must present evidence of: an earned doctorate from an accredited institution; experience and achievement commensurate with tenure at the rank of Professor; progressive leadership and administrative experience at an institution of higher learning and/or an institution of allied health; a record of scholarship within the education or allied health field; and a strong commitment to diversity within a university or health setting. Also required is substantial fiscal and fundraising expertise to help increase the endowment for supporting programs, scholarships, graduate students, and distinguished chairs. The ability to develop and foster good relations with state agencies and donors is crucial.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated leadership in managing a complex and interdisciplinary academic or allied health enterprise that emphasizes collaboration among colleges or units; experience with national accreditation agencies/bodies; evidence of being a successful practitioner or of having significant creative accomplishments; experience with developing, coordinating, and delivering distance education degree programs.

Job Duties:
The Dean will: lead faculty and staff to achieve the vision of the College (see http://coehp.uark.edu/66.htm), including promoting and advancing the diverse fields within the College; foster excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship; promote collaboration with other colleges and schools on campus in support of cross-disciplinary and campus-wide initiatives; initiate outreach efforts to heighten the visibility and distinctiveness of the College; cultivate an environment commensurate with University goals; place “students first” through a strong commitment to recruitment, development, retention, and graduation.
