Job Details:
Elementary Music Teacher for South Bend Community School Corporation to provide instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs. This teacher monitors student growth using the 8 step process, is competent using data collection models to assess and track student growth, and is able to integrate technology and the arts into instructional plans. The teacher will be an effective classroom manager, able to collaborate with teachers, work actively with students and parents and communicate academic necessities for student growth.
Specifically, the Elementary Music Teacher will:
- Have a working knowledge of best practices in Music Education, arts integration, and Indiana Academic Standards in Music, while implementing a curriculum based in creativity
- Guide, motivate and engage students in learning, including understanding the principles of music, music reading, musicianship, and specific vocal and performance skills through solo and ensemble practice and performances
- Enhance symbolic communication, promote self-esteem, self-motivation, aesthetic awareness, cultural exposure, creativity, improved emotional expression and social harmony, relationships, team-building, cooperation, self-confidence and providing an avenue for building performance competencies
- Make use of quality vocal literature in diverse styles appropriate in difficulty and range for students
- Maintain a safe classroom, using appropriate classroom management skills
- Complete and maintain all required student records
- Utilize the SBCSC technology, as required
- Attend and participate in required staff meetings and building-wide trainings and initiatives
- Plan, rehearse, and direct students in a minimum of two concerts per year (Semester I, Semester II) at the building level. These performances should include all performance classes.
- Plan, rehearse and direct students in a year-long after-school Primary Center Choir for students in Grades 3 & 4. Rehearsals should be held a minimum of one day per week. The choir should be involved in the building level concerts.
- Prepare students to perform for additional community/extra-curricular concerts, when scheduled
- Utilize instructional materials/resources recommended for the district
- Participate in all Fine Arts Vocal Music recruiting events
- Attend corporation Fine Arts and Primary Music staff meetings, as scheduled
- Provide for music/choir participation at school-related and community events, such as concerts, recruiting performances, community outreach, etc.
- Assist with compiling budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs
- Coordinate fundraising activities and management of funds, as needed
- Facilitate cleaning, repairing, and storing all music supplies/equipment
- Develop and implement plans for music program and show written evidence of preparation, including lesson plans, as required
- Conduct ongoing formative and summative assessments of student achievement
- Accompany and supervise students on field trips, when necessary
- Maintain open communication and professional relationships with all stakeholders
- Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
- Adhere to the district’s safety policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
- Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
- Execute other duties as assigned
Requires the following Education, Experience, and Licensure:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in education, music, or a related field
- Experience: 1 year of experience directing and conducting a choir
- Licensure: Indiana Educator's Permit or License with a Vocal and General Music content certification OR be able to obtain an emergency permit or licensure within 6 weeks
