This position is engaged in the mission of Regional Health in the area of Health Information Management. The Health Information Management Technician identifies with the need for accuracy in diligence in maintaining patient health information, in meeting daily department goals and organizational goals. The Health Information Management Technician coordinates the core functions of the safe keeping of the patient record, including tasks related to the development, maintenance, and protection and provision of protected health information. The Health Information Management Technician provides customer service to patients, family members, physicians, providers, hospitals, clinics, and clinicians.
Job Description: Essential Functions:
Assists with the check in, tracking, and completion of Emergency Department records.
Analyzes health records to meet the established standard, coordinating production goals and schedules of analysts to meet the established turn around time.
Accurately scans, documents, and classifies personal health information in order to maintain the electronic health records of patients.
Accomplishes "Assign Form ID"
Emergency Preparedness Communications: Maintains responsibility for the activation of the Command Center Calling in the event of a Standby D or Major D. Performance is evidenced by completion of competency, completion of drills, and actual events.
Accurately receives and processes requests for patient information according to time frames as outlined in the Departmental goals. Evaluates many categories of requests, including those for treatment, payment, and Healthcare operations, as well as those specific requestors such as commercial insurances, workmens compensation insurances, social services, disability, Medicare, Champus, courts, attorneys, and law enforcement. Processes the requests in a timely manner.
Understands and supports compliance with the Joint Commission and CMS record of care and management of information standards, medical staff rules and regulations, and other regulatory standards as applicable.
Checks out records in and outside of the Department accurately in all circumstances according to written procedure, utilizing the Medical Records chart locator system.
Monitors and maintains shred policy for scanned paper.
All other duties as assigned.
Experience - 3+ years of Health Information System Experience
Education - Associates degree in Related Field
Certifications - Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)Physical Requirements:
