Initiates and coordinates the information necessary for prompt and efficient registration, transfer, and discharge of patients. Collects payment of patient`s financial liability in compliance with federal and state regulations. Communicates to ensure proper placement for Emergency, Obstetric, and other patients as required. Demonstrates a caring and respectful attitude to all patients, family members, visitors, and fellow employees as defined in the Regional Health Standards of Performance.
Job Description: Essential Functions:
Accurately identifies patient and selects correct Unit number from the Master Patient Index, if applicable as evidenced by documentation.
Accurately collects information necessary for registration, discharge, and transfer of all patient types into the Emergency Department, Obstetrics, and other patients as required.
Obtains signatures on required documents (consents for treatment, Medicare notices, etc) as appropriate and witnesses said signatures.
Assists in achieving the financial objectives of the hospital by following Revenue Cycle guidelines.
Demonstrates knowledge of payer information, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers, to ensure compliance with rules and regulations and facilitate the reimbursement process. Obtains scanned copy of insurance card and photo ID.
Utilize available technology to obtain necessary verification and authorization in the most efficient manner possible as evidenced by documentation. This could include Passport, insurance web-sites, telephone or fax.
Calculates patients financial liability, requests payment, accepts payment and presents receipts for same as evidenced by documentation.
Identifies patients at high risk for financial clearance and patients requesting assistance, referring them to the Financial Counselor.
Monitors the daily census and ensures that all patients are entered appropriately.
Completes assigned performance improvement activities as evidenced by observation, documentation, and feedback.

Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent in General Studies
Experience - 1+ years of Admissions Experience; 1+ years of Claims Experience; 1+ years of Coding Experience; 1+ years of Medical Record Management Experience, 1+ years of Medical Terminology Experience
Certification - Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification - Accredited University or accredited training professionalsPhysical Requirements:
Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.
