Essential Job Functions
Working knowledge of B/AR routines to function in other job capacities and support changes in workload and schedules.
Utilize available technology to obtain necessary verification and authorization in the most efficient manner possible as evidenced by documentation. This could include Passport,
insurance web-sites, telephone or fax.
Demonstrates knowledge of payer information, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers, to ensure compliance with rules and regulations and facilitate the reimbursement process. Obtains scanned copy of insurance card and photo ID.
Demonstrates knowledge of hospital payment policies and financial assistance programs.
Requests payment at point of service and educates patient about the billing process, to include their responsibilities.
Ensures that cash drawer is balanced at end of day, bank deposits completed and balanced with daily HPM activity report and cash reconciliation spreadsheet.
Gathers and keys in accurate demographic and insurance information for prompt admission/registration/discharge of the patient and appropriate placement in the service area or ancillary department.
Promptly answers incoming phone calls at main switchboard and demonstrates ability to transfer calls to appropriate department in a courteous, timely manner.
High School Diploma/GED Equivalent is required.
Physical Demands: Lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time, occasionally lifting or carrying small items such as files or small tools (for no more than a total of two hours in a workday). Involves sitting for large portion of the day and may require some standing and walking in carrying out job duties.
Computer eyestrain and ear strain with use of phone. Must work efficiently under stress, multi tasking, with frequent interruptions. Able to work independently, prioritizing work duties. Capable of independent decision making. Skilled in
communications and customer service.
