Rapid City Regional Hospital Hospitalist Professional Billing Coding Specialist (Primary assignment) (Secondary assignment is rotated within the centralized coding team).
The Coder II position is responsible for the following code assignments: ICD, CPT procedure codes, CPT Evaluation and Management, HCPCS, modifier assignment, auditing, physician education, charge entry, denial management, and knowledge of revenue codes, and RVU`s.
Essential Job Functions
Duties includes, utilizing multiple software programs for coding/billing, using resources to include current approved coding books and software, evaluation of documentation to assure accurate assignment of billed units, verification of patient status, verification of documentation to support the assignment of diagnosis codes based on medical necessity, patient status, and time documentation, correct injections and infusion code assignments, accurate service date start/stop assignments. All listed duties are required as appropriate to the assigned coding tasks.
The Coder II position requires a broad knowledge that may encompass multiple specialties in the clinic, inpatient hospitalization, outpatient department, nursing home, or assisted living center settings. The Coder II position is able to work independently with the ability to problem solve.
The Coding and Auditing Specialist collaborates with specific departments and physicians in the area of charge entry, charge oversight, and documentation review to accurately reflect the patients coding, billing record, and education. The position includes working closely with the Compliance Department, Resource Management, and Quality Departments to assure accurate coding.
This position will assist and engage in physician education on documentation requirements, auditing and compliance requirements, federal regulations on updates to correct coding initiatives, payor requirements and other needs as necessitated.
The Coder II position will be able to accurately and efficiently code and abstract diagnostic patient records to maintain Regional Health data in accordance with benchmark`s and standards for accurate coding, follow official coding guidelines and promote teamwork by completing office responsibilities as assigned.
High School Diploma/GED Required
Associates Health Information Management Preferred
2 years Coding experience Preferred
AHIMA OR AAPC Certification or completion of an approved course of study.
Physical Demands: Vision, hearing, sedentary computer use routinely.
Lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time, occasionally lifting or carrying small items such as files or small tools (for no more than a total of two hours in a workday). Involves sitting for large portion of the day, and may require some standing and walking in carrying out job duties.
Work Hours: Flexible but regular start time, M-F, 8 hours; rare but occasional weekend
