As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, the Activity Assistant is responsible for ensuring that the residents activity, social
and emotional needs are met as established in the residents Bill of Rights.
Directs, plans and implements the activity program using monthly calendars to provide a
variety of programming to include the social, religious, divers ional, physical and intellectual
needs of the residents. Documents all aspects of the activity program. Works directly with
nursing staff to promote activities for the patient.
Assists and directs staff to assist residents with reading and writing letters.
Encourages resident to participate in religious activities to meet their spiritual needs.
Evaluates resident`s reactions to activities and reports unusual observations to Nursing
Helps serve meals, snacks, and refreshments to residents, families, and visitors.
Plans and schedules events that include social, recreational, spiritual and creative activity
for the residents.
Plans and schedules outside activities and trips in the community and arranges for
transportation and supervision.
Plans, organizes and implements the daily activity program and provides direct supervision
to activity assistants working in the department.
Provides materials for residents with special needs, such as tapes and records for the blind,
Schedules activities that encourage individual and group participation and visits.
Displays a positive attitude and flexibility in changing situations.
Ability to work independently.
Degree/Diploma Obtained Program of Study Required
Certified Nurse Aide Required but can provide training
Lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time, with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing
up to 25 pounds.
