Job Summary:

The Clinical Resource Nurse demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to function as a nursing resource to nurses, physicians, staff, patients and families that relate to departmental operations. Reconciles problems that arise during day-to-day operations. Functions in the role to teach, inform and mentor nurses and ancillary staff members. Recognizes priority patient situations that need immediate attention. Demonstrates strong communication skills to function as a conduit between the medical staff, nursing staff, patients, families and ancillary departments. Advocates and promotes Patient and Family-Centered Care and excellent customer service skills and practices.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:
  • Utilizes critical thinking in the coordination of medical and nursing interventions, as evidenced by observation and feedback to enhance patient flow and throughput of elective of elective and add-on cases (urgent/emergent).
  • Collaborates directly with Physicians, Anesthesia Providers, OR CRN`s or charge nurses and the transfer center regarding inpatient bed availability, OR schedule changes and the add-on procedure coordination.
  • Establishes nursing care plans for patients based on nursing processes to include: assessment data and other relevant information, nursing diagnoses, needs and problems and appropriate interventions. Bases nursing care on policies and established protocol. Evaluates patient`s response to interventions and modifies plan of care as needed.
  • Collaborates with physician and healthcare team in the coordination of perioperative care needs.
  • Handles unanticipated events and crisis situations in a professional manner. Is alert to potential problems and notifies appropriate individuals as necessary.
  • Manages the delivery of nursing care utilizing the nursing process to provide high quality patient care. Directs and assists others on the health care team to provide positive outcomes.
  • Provides appropriate staffing levels while being fiscally responsible with productivity standards. Adjusts patient assignments to ensure safe patient care according to patient acuity. Delegates responsibilities with a fair, professional, objective approach.
  • Participates with caregiver recognition and demonstrates recognition at a minimum of monthly meetings.
  • Participates on the Patient-Family Satisfaction committee on a bi-monthly basis.
  • Collaborates with management to promote caregiver accountability in regards to quality, safety, behaviors and patient/family experience.
  • Assists with and/or coaches projects and process improvement through identification, assessment, and monitoring improvement of targets.
  • Functions as a liaison between patients, surgeons, and members of the healthcare team.
  • Rounds on patients and families and responds promptly and professionally to customers addressing requests, problems and concerns.
  • Alerts management to potential quality and/or customer service concerns.

Physical Requirements:
Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Make a difference.
