Position Overview

As the Controller, this person is responsible for overseeing the company’s financial operations and making decisions based on the company’s financial stability. Duties include monitoring cash flow, reviewing the best practices for company finances and coming up with strategic plans to improve the company’s overall financial health.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for company accounting functions such as end of month financial procedures and financial reports, supervises accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger functions, including review of all voucher packets, and quarterly and annual payroll reports, as well as reports to outside entities such as banking relations and insurances.
  • Interprets financial reports for the management team at periodic meetings and works with departments in establishing and meeting departmental budgets.
  • Responsible for the granting of credit and the collection of accounts due the company.
  • Supervises costing function to develop accurate manufacturing costs including the establishment of standards, identifying and analyzing of variances, analyzing inventory transactions, fixed asset management, etc.
  • Responsible for year-end financial procedures and financial reports.  Coordinate audit (if required) of company accounts and the physical inventory.
  • Administers the Employees’ Profit Sharing Plan including, but not limited to, coordination of enrollment meetings, annual audit and annual testing of plan.
  • Responsible for cash flow administration.
  • Provide data and a monthly financial report for the company’s Board of Directors.
  • Aggressively pursues any issue to its conclusion involving reporting accuracy, standard cost, capital appropriation or potential expense control.
  • Directs preparation of operating plan reviews operating plan proposals and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification.
  • Responsible for completion of 5500 Forms and Summary Annual Reports for all benefit plans of the company.
  • Responsible for other reports required by governmental agencies, surveys, etc.
  • Coordinates redemptions and transfer of company stock.
  • Reviews appropriation requests for proper authorizations, proper general ledger account classification, tax treatment, etc.
  • Provides annual performance reviews of all individuals who work within the accounting department.
  • Provides other managers and departments with information required by them to carry out their assigned responsibilities.
  • Directs determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
  • Advises management about property insurance for protection against property losses and potential liability.
  • Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field from a four year college or university and five to seven years related experience in a manufacturing setting or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Certifications in Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Knowledge and application of the accounting body of knowledge to include, cost/financial analysis, internal audit, budget development and forecasting, production of financial statements.
  • Strong ability to conceptualize the impact of others plans on the financial health of the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills coupled with strong computer skills to include Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel to be able to clearly share numbers and to translate financial information in graphs and other forms that will readily tell the story the numbers show.
  • Supervisory skills to manage the Accounting Department and to have followers who will implement the required actions.
  • Strong ethics with a proven track record of honesty.  Avoiding conflicts of interest to maintain the integrity of the business.
  • Experience in a leadership role with a proven ability to manage large-scale projects and oversee the long-term goals of the company.
  • Comfortable taking in data from diverse departments, from procurement and IT to marketing and logistics, to easily identify problems and find then implement solutions.
  • The ability to manage time wisely, delegate tasks, motivate employees and make good decisions.
  • Identifies risk easily and finds ways to mitigate it before it reaches crisis levels. 
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate with diverse stakeholders, from those who work on the factory floor to other executives and investors, both verbally and in writing.
