Summary:
The Public Schools Forum of East Tennessee serves as a catalyst to help the East Tennessee region achieve public schools that are second to none. In keeping with its mission, the Forum has commissioned a project with Pro2Serve, an East Tennessee based professional services firm designed to provide highly qualified professionals on a project by project (or, course by course) basis. The project will assess and develop strategies to address the growing need for teachers with subject matter expertise in math, science, foreign languages, and other areas of current shortage. This will be accomplished by assessing the needs, interests, and requirements of public secondary schools in East Tennessee; the abilities and interests of area colleges in providing courses to meet the needs of public secondary schools; and the interest and availability of professional scientists, engineers, linguists, and others to teach in hard to-staff subject areas. The effort will initially be referred to as the "East Tennessee Distinguished Professionals in Schools Program".
As a part of this project, Pro2Serve is assessing the interest and potential for providing Course Matter Experts (CME) from the business and technical community to fill critical shortage areas in targeted high school classrooms.
A CME is defined as an individual who possesses:
- a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a critical shortage area identified by a public school district;
- a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of students in East Tennessee;
- an enthusiasm for creating an interesting and challenging classroom environment; and
- a willingness to partner with a local college and a school district to provide excellent instruction to students
Participation in this program is contingent upon completion of an interview and a background check to include a reference check, fingerprinting and drug testing. Compensation level will be based upon funding provided by participating school districts.
