Job Location: Oak Ridge, TN

Under general supervision, the incumbent will conduct research within the Plant-Microbial Interfaces (PMI) program at ORNL. Specific research tasks include the analysis of omics data, computer programming, statistics, mathematics, network analysis and high performance computing. Focused, self-directed research is also expected. This position resides in the Biosciences Division (BSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The PMI program at ORNL is focused on the understanding the dynamic interface that exists between plants, microbes and their environment. A specific focus is on defining the genetic bases of molecular communication between Populus and its microbial consortia. Understanding the inherent chemical and physical processes involved will facilitate natural routes to the cycling and sequestration of carbon in terrestrial environments, ecosystem response to climate change, and the development and management of renewable energy sources.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Omics data analysis Collaborate with internal DOE and external University researchers to analyze and interpret PMI data Use computational approaches to develop novel hypotheses that can be explore collaboratively with other PMI researchers. Participate in weekly PMI meetings. Occasional travel to conferences or collaborative visits with other researchers. Publication of scientific results in high-impact peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements. Maintain strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics.

Qualifications Required:
Basic Qualifications: A PhD in computational biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science or related discipline An excellent record of productive and creative research demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals Expertise, as measured through first-author publications and/or major conference presentations focused on computational biology. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate in English to an international scientific audience.Applicants must have received their PhD within five years of this application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.Preferred Qualifications: Expertise and experience in omics data analysis, computer programming, high performance computing.
