SUPERVISOR:
Associate Vice President for Development

DESCRIPTION:
Professional fund-raising position responsible for the direction and implementation of a comprehensive development program for raising private gifts to the Kansas State University Foundation in support of the College of Agriculture and Kansas State University. This position will focus on major gifts fund-raising ($25,000 or more). This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Development. This is a regular full-time exempt position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the mission of the KSU Foundation as it relates to the educational, research and service goals of the University with the ability to communicate the institution’s needs and priorities – both internally and externally.
2. Establishes and nurtures effective, collegial working relationships with foundation coworkers, university partners, and donors. Promotes and demonstrates respect, collaboration, and friendly customer service in all working relationships.
3. Directs programs for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for prospective and present major gift donors to the College of Agriculture and Kansas State University, working with the dean, department heads, professional staff, University administrators, faculty and volunteer leadership.
4. Responsible for the direction and implementation of a comprehensive development program for the College of Agriculture, including supervising and evaluating the performance of the development officer and development assistant; and, establishing and monitoring strategic priorities, the timeline, and performance benchmarks for the College of Agriculture development team.
5. Develops and implements both annual and long-range goals, objectives and strategies to maximize private support through various sources (individuals, corporations, foundations and planned giving vehicles) for the College of Agriculture.
6. Develops and implements an ongoing program of communication with donors which recognizes past and current commitments and fosters support for future efforts.
7. Communicates constituency needs and priorities with alumni, friends and donors.
8. Coordinates preparation and development of major gift proposals for prospects of the College of Agriculture.
9. Assists the administration and volunteer boards of the College of Agriculture as assigned in developing private support.
10. Develops an understanding of the KSU Foundation programs, policies and objectives.
11. Represents the KSU Foundation and the College of Agriculture on committees and meetings both internal and external to the University.
12. Participates in Foundation activities (i.e. annual meetings of the Board of Trustees, Presidents Club events, etc.).
13. Participates in the College of Agriculture development activities (i.e. annual advisory council meetings, alumni functions, Telefund, etc.).
14. Travels throughout United States and possibly abroad to call on current and prospective donors to solicit donations and/or communicates with donors/prospects by letter or phone.
15. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Education:
Bachelors degree in marketing, business administration, higher education, public relations, communications or related field.

Experience:
A minimum three years work experience in development at a University or corporate organization.

Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills; organizational and interpersonal skills. Must be results-orientated, quality-driven and team oriented. Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on projects. Confidentiality important.

Requirement:
Demonstrates a solid understanding of development techniques and systems based on past performance. Exhibits passion and enthusiasm for his/her cause. Willing to work hard. Communicates well with people and exhibits good listening skills. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license. Travel required.
