Internship Overview: Overall

The Georgia-Pacific Accounting, Internal Audit, Tax, Treasury & Finance Internship is a 10+ week summer internship designed to provide meaningful real-work experience. Interns will be placed in one of the above named capabilities for the duration of the internship. These opportunities will be located primarily in our manufacturing locations in mills or plants throughout the United States or in our headquarters office located in Atlanta, Georgia. Real and genuine work experience, planned career networking events and focused mentoring prepare our interns for a career within the Georgia-Pacific financial groups.

Successful interns will combine scholastic knowledge with on-the-job and computer-based training to develop a basic understanding of Georgia-Pacifics financial systems and procedures. They will also identify opportunities that drive value for the company, such as streamlining processes, improving efficiency and reducing waste. Learning experiences will be enhanced by interactions with local and corporate business partners in accounting, operations, information technology, engineering and other areas.

Accounting Internship

Responsibilities may include work in the following areas:

  • General accounting activities, including month-end close support and account analysis, inventory and fixed assets accounting
  • Capital and maintenance project support, working with analysts, operations management, maintenance and project engineers\
  • Leveraging technology skills for projects and analysis including manufacturing costs, benchmarking, and data analytics
  • External financial reporting, internal management reporting and analysis

Internal Audit Internship

Responsibilities may include work in the following areas:

  • Financial assurance, including evaluating the design and effectiveness of internal financial controls
  • Operational audits, focused on procurement and capital project contracts
  • Data analytics, supporting audit teams and leveraging innovative technology to improve decision making
  • IT audits, including evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of IT processes and controls

Tax Internship

Responsibilities may include work in the following areas:

  • Work directly with Staff and Managers supporting tax planning, accounting for income tax, compliance & position management, and special projects
  • Exposure to a variety of projects across Domestic and International tax disciplines income, credits & incentives and indirect tax
  • Develop knowledge and gain experience in how a Corporate Tax Department functions with exposure to the various issues and positions it manages, and how risk is managed and value is created for the business

Treasury Internship

Responsibilities may include work in the following areas:

  • Managing cash activity and investing, optimizing GPs debt portfolio, issuing new financing instruments (bonds, commercial paper, bank debt, etc.), creating economic models, working with banks and rating agencies, managing business & insurance risk and negotiating real estate transactions.
  • Professionals in Treasury Group provide services in the following areas: GP Credit & Collections, Real Estate, Risk Optimization, Business Continuity, and Corporate Finance.
Business Analysis Internship

Responsibilities may include work in the following areas:
  • Gathering and analyzing data that enables organizational change, helps define business needs, ensures the use of the Decision Making Framework and drives the prioritization/solution to business problems.
  • Usage of finance knowledge and critical thinking skills for projects around operations and financial performance, benchmarking, and diving into a variety of data pools for business insights.

Minimum Basic Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a BS or MS degree in accounting, finance, economics, business analytics
  • Will graduate on or before August 2018
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA in major coursework and overall
  • Able to work in the US without sponsorship (OPT, CPT, H1-B, etc.)
