Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Orbit Dynamist and Mission Manager.

Responsibilities
A senior astrodynamicist with extensive experience and demonstrated leadership in actual mission implementation and flight phases, and connections with the wider space and science community, is needed to support mission proposal development and on-going and future mission flight operations. Lead and advise mission design staff on new concepts and on-going programs. Possibility serve in mission manager capacity. Initiate and develop new space mission concepts in concert with scientist, mission design engineers, and mission system engineers. Provide leadership in mission manager role or advisor to program manager, mission system engineer, and mission operations manager on current and future missions particularly on critical mission events such as trajectory correction maneuvers and science planning. Participate in proposal development for NASA missions areas such as New Frontiers, Discovery, Mars Scout, and Lunar/Mars Exploration, and DoD concepts missions. Network with scientists and others on very early concept development; help evaluate feasibility of missions and direct mission designer in preliminary analysis.

Qualifications

Required: MS or equivalent in engineering, physical science, or related field. At least 15 years experience post advanced degree in aerospace engineering field, with at leas 8 years directly involved in actual space missions in the areas of mission design (trajectory analysis) or mission management or equivalent. Demonstrated leadership and sound judgment in actual missions. Outstanding leadership attributes and strong networking skills. Connection with broad spectrum of space and science community specialists. General knowledge of space science and space systems strong interpersonal, teaming, and writing skills essential. Must be innovative, creative, self-motivated, and solutions-oriented. Must possess ability and a track record to develop, implement, and publish innovative concepts. Desired: Highly desired: PhD in engineering, physical science or closely related field. Ability to develop team with prominent scientists for new space mission proposals. Knowledge of NASA and DoD satellite systems and requirement. Publication and presentation record commensurate with work experience.

Desired: Significant experience in orbit analysis/mission design software tools such as Satellite Tool Kit. Navigation methods systems.

Security
