Job Description:

Assists the Quality Assurance Manager in the administration and coordination of Quality Assurance Department activities. This position includes a combination of supervision and active participation in the tasks necessary to ensure that Country Pure Foods manufactures safe, quality products and that all products are in compliance with regulatory requirements and Company standards.

Responsibility and Duties:

Assists the Quality Assurance Manager in the formulation and maintenance of quality assurance objectives complimentary to Company policies and goals.

Supports and conveys quality assurance philosophy to personnel in the facility.

Supervises and prepares work schedules for technician coverage in accordance with business needs.

Assists with prioritizing and coordinating workflow and assists in the delegation of work assignments, matching the responsibility to the person.

Supervises HACCP Program compliance and is part of the HACCP team. Helps in the implementation, documenting and monitoring this system with the help of a cross-departmental team and QA Manager.

Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current processes and process changes.

Reviews data obtained during quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.

Assists the Quality Assurance Manager in developing new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.

Keeps management abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and actions being taken to improve the situation.

Prepares and presents technical and program information to the management and other personnel as needed.

Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.

Works with the Quality Assurance Manager in designing and presenting training programs, including but not limited to GMPs, HACCP, Food Security, Allergen, SQF, and Organic related training.

Assists the Quality Assurance Manager with investigating and responding to customer complaints regarding quality.

Maintains master formula documents, updates as needed, and computes pounds solids on batch sheets.

Performs Analytical & SOP documentation review for both CPF & Co-Pack accounts.

Maintains sterility results and reports for both CPF and Co-Pack accounts.

Administers Water Program.

Oversees the Quality Department Calibration program and ensures instrumentation is calibrated and up to date. Verifies the calibration and /or calibrates and maintains laboratory & operational equipment.

Orders and maintains laboratory supplies.

Oversees and coordinates training of new technicians.

Monitors and trends technician participation in proficiency testing programs.

Maintains, updates and improves Quality Manuals.

Assists Follows up on with complaint investigations and monitors trend analysis.

Assists with lab coverage and performs microbiological functions as needed.

Assists with ensuring testing is performed safely and in accordance with Standard Testing Procedures.

Monitors blending operation for conformance to process and packaging specifications.

Monitors production for conformance to process and package specifications.

Monitors all aspects of production for compliance to GMP's and SOP's.

Assesses the performance of the sanitation crew/process.

Prepares and validates laboratory reagent solutions.

Informs the QA Manager of any out-of-spec situations or negative trends.

Assist in the preparation and administration of Quality Audits.

Communicates pest control issues to Pest Control Officer (PCO) as needed. Follows instructions and responds to management direction.

Completes sterility readings.

Involvement in new product commissioning, mock recalls, and FDA, USDA and 3rd party audits.

Serves as primary backup to the Quality Assurance Manager and as backup HACCP documentation reviewer.

Writes and speaks clearly and informatively and able to read and interpret written information.

Able to make sound decisions based on specifications, procedures, and experience

Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and completes work in timely manner.

Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events and reacts well under pressure.

Follows policies and procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.

Observes safety and security procedures and reports potentially unsafe conditions.

Possesses familiarity with basic chemistry, food science, and microbiology and strives to continuously build knowledge and skills.

Displays good interpersonal skills and is self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision

Is consistently at work and on time and commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises hourly employees, including Quality Assurance Technicians. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in food science, food technology, chemistry or related field, and three to five years' experience in a Quality Assurance leadership role and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of FDA, GMP, SOP, SSOP, HACCP, SQF, sanitation, chemical safety, pest control, food allergens and Kosher Requirements.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess proficient typing abilities, and have knowledge of Spreadsheet Software (MS Excel) , Word Processing Software (MS Word) Database Software (MS Access) and Email Software).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Juice HACCP Certification preferred.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however the employee may be required to enter production areas where the noise level is usually loud and hearing protection is required.
