Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Monitors daily activities of Packaging employees. Assists in the training of Packaging employees. Ensures that all necessary equipment needed for the next production run is ready, clean, and in working order prior to the start of that product. Notifies supervisor or maintenance department when repairs or adjustments are beyond the scope of his or her expertise. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product. Suggests changes in the working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department, line or team. Observes production operations and inspects product to verify conformance to specifications. Observes production order to ascertain type and quantity of packaging to be used, and other packaging requirements. Monitors and inspects crust packaging by counting, recording, weighing, and measuring against customer specifications. Observes packaging operations and inspects finished cases to verify conformance to specifications on a regular schedule. Starts, adjusts, and operates packaging machinery and notifies supervisor or maintenance department when repairs or adjustments are beyond the scope of his or her expertise. Operates auxiliary equipment associated with the operations of the packaging line. Assists Supervisor in analyzing packaging problems and assists team members in solving them. Maintains and monitors process control paperwork in accordance with HACCP recommendations, including but not limited to: weight and batch control; time and yield efficiencies, and metal detector. Monitors cases produced by hour and cases produced by previous shifts. Completes related paperwork throughout the shift and submits to operations department at the end of each shift. Ensures proper communication on pre-ops and changeovers between shifts. Confers with other Leads to coordinate activities of individual departments. Performs all Packaging functions within each department. Maintains and monitors cleanliness of employees working area. Plans daily and weekly crewing levels. Monitors employees adherence to company rules and policies and recommends necessary corrective action to the Supervisor if needed. Assists in reviewing and maintaining crewing levels and optimizing to meet or surpass NPF cost targets. Suggests ways to control labor and supply costs as well as improve processes. Ensures that all work activities are performed with attention to the highest standards for quality, safety and compliance with all appropriate legal and food safety requirements and a focus on continuous improvement. Ensures that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed. Follows all company policies & procedures as well as the GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices). Maintains a high level of safety awareness for an accident-free work place. Reports any unsafe or hazardous work conditions or safety-related issues to Management. Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
Education, Skills and Experience: Education: High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
Skills and Experience: One to three months of food manufacturing or packaging experience. Ability to work overtime, irregular hours or rotating shifts. Ability to speak, write and understand English. Good interpersonal, written and oral communications skills. Ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of diverse individuals. Ability to establish trust and credibility with employees. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, formulas, and policy and procedures manuals. Ability to write standard information into related paperwork. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure including but not limited to pounds, ounces, grams, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to effectively present information to management. Knowledge of Microsoft applications. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment.
Organizational Structure: The Packaging lead will report directly to the Packaging Supervisor. Compensation Average annual salary: $35,000 - $45,000/year which includes: Hourly pay of $19.32-$20.57/hour, based on experience Overtime after 40 hours per week; average work week 40-50 hours per week Opportunities for advancement positions paying $50K-$60K/year Benefits Benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, and Voluntary Life) - 1st of the month following 60 days PTO - 8 Personal after 60 days and begin earning additional PTO after 180 days of employment - 401K Saving and Retirement Plan
