Personal Training Manager

Job Location: Philadelphia, PA

The Personal Training Manager is a location specific supervisor, responsible for leadership, performance management and the overall successful and profitable operation of that location's Personal Training Department. The PTM works closely with the PT Sales Coordinator and Lead Coaches to maintain key aspects such as quality assurance and member retention.



  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
  • At least five years in a management role
  • Prior experience in staff development

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • Valid Nationally recognized personal training certification
  • Active CPR certification

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position that requires a physical onsite presence and a minimum of 40 scheduled hours per work week. Unless otherwise specified, days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 10am to 7pm. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties or special projects demand. Schedule alterations must be approved prior by the direct supervisor

Supervisory Responsibility

The Personal Training Manager serves as the immediate supervisor to all PT Coaches, Sales Coordinators, and/or assistant PT Managers. The PT Manager is responsible for the overall performance management, maintenance, and profitable growth within a specific location's department.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment as wells as on the gym floor. This role routinely uses a variety of fitness equipment and standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Managers must be computer literate and comfortable working with a multitude of computer software and information systems.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. In addition, more extensive physical movements are required and listed below:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Continual standing, walking/ frequent bending, reaching and occasional kneeling
  • Must be physically fit enough to spot clients and correctly perform any exercise or movement included in the program.
  • Requires full manual dexterity of the upper extremities including hands, arms and shoulders and unrestricted movement of both lower extremities, back and hips.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Unless otherwise specified, the days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm. However, this position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work as job duties or special projects demand.

Travel

This position requires a moderate amount of travel. Although Travel is primarily local during the business day, some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

This position requires additional screening as a condition of hire.
