Overview
The Quality Control Mechanical Inspector forms inspections of precision machined components fabricated by PPPLs CMG machine shop or by PPPLs suppliers to assure conformance with drawings, specifications and standards, purchase Orders and approved inspection plans.
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.
Responsibilities
- Performs inspections of custom fabricated precision machined components in PPPLs CMG machine shop to assure conformance with drawings, specifications and standards by using CMM and using hand-held inspection/ test equipment.
- Perform receiving inspections of parts or items supplied by subcontractors or vendors as per applicable Purchase Orders Procurement quality assurance clauses, technical specifications, drawings and standards.
- Support on-site field operations and installations in accordance with approved Technical and Installation procedures (i.e. machine component installations, facilities lifts , fire barrier penetrations and seals, construction oversight)
- Perform surveillances and walk through oversight of work activities, and safety conditions.
- Generates and issues various reports, such as inspection reports, nonconformance reports, and activity reports. Knowledge of MS office tools.
- Identifies general problem areas that may span many work activities and could potentially impact Lab quality or ES&H, provides management with potential solutions to correct the problems.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: - High school graduate or GED equivalent is required. Associates degree or higher in engineering or technical field is desirable.
- Demonstrable experience as CMM operator and programmer is required.
- MUST have in depth, hands-on related experience in equivalent inspection and test activities associated with power plants, heavy industrial facilities, or similar facilities.
- Current or previous Qualification or certification as a Level II QC Mechanical Inspector is required.
- Demonstrable experience reading technical specifications, procedures, and drawings is required.
- Computer literacy and experience with computers is required.
- Willingness to travel to vendors/suppliers is required.
- Must have the ability and experience with writing clear and concise reports
- Certification and experience in EPRI- VT-1, -2, -3,-4, Level II for Visual Testing (VT) and Penetrant Testing (PT) is helpful
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector/ CWI is desirable
- Familiarity with ASME, AWS, IEEE, NFPA and other construction codes is desirable
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Skill and ability to use modern measuring equipment (preferably including CMM) to perform detailed inspections of machined parts or assembled components is required
Certificates and Licenses: - Current or previous Qualification or certification as a Level II QC Mechanical Inspector is required.
- CWI certification is desirable.
Physical Requirements: - Able to lift up-to 25 lbs.
Working Conditions: - 2nd Shift work and overtime work may be periodically required.
