The primary focus of a Data Center Engineer is maintaining and deploying state-of-the-art IT infrastructure in Atlas Air Data Centers. This role is a subject matter expert that works closely with other teams and external vendors to build and maintain the reliability of all Atlas IT infrastructure. Data Center Engineers also provide advanced technical support for infrastructure systems at all company locations, and facilitate troubleshooting with other cross-functional teams. They develop and implement new solutions, improve existing solutions, and provide a path of escalation for complex or high risk IT requests. Their ability to interact and facilitate initiatives with vendors and third parties is key. Maintaining the availability and performance of production systems is paramount.


Customer and System Support:
  • Provide day-to-day support of all data center-related operational related issues on a global scale
  • Keep all data centers at the latest release and in sync with each other
  • Keep all data center documentation up to date, including assets, configurations, and processes
  • Manage data center physical access lists
  • Oversee the approval, planning, and conduct of any work in the Atlas data center environments
  • Assist IT Governance in the development of appropriate metrics to ensure compliance with Enterprise DR/BCP guidelines and standards
  • Provide escalated technical support
  • Proactively identify, research and resolve technical problems
  • Responsibility for monitoring and completing tickets in assigned queues
  • Participate in after-hours on-call support
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance
  • Manage communications to IT and business regarding datacenter and resiliency-related events
  • Keep IT management apprised of critical issues

Design, Engineering, and Innovation:
  • Facilitate the acquisition and integration of new technology into the data center environment
  • Collaborate with other team members on disaster recovery and business continuty testing and planning
  • Collaborate with other team members to validate Technology Recovery Time Capabilities and Recovery Objective Capabilities during testing to ensure business process RTOs and RPOs can successfully be achieved
  • Identify and recommend new data center technology value to the organization
  • Research technical concepts and educate other team members as needed
  • Present research / proposed projects to IT management
  • Participate in technology evaluations
  • Collaboration with other design teams within IT

Monitoring & Optimization:
  • Baseline operational performance metrics relating to resiliency environments and develop, implement and measure plans to improve
  • Review automated infrastructure monitoring systems and escalate appropriately
  • Provide capacity planning and keep IT management apprised of system capacity needs
  • Identify improvements to operational capabilities and performance based on best practices
  • Recommend improvements to systems and IT support process
  • Recommend implementation standards
  • Recommend Service Management standards

Documentation & Knowledge Management:
  • Develop quality documentation of technical processes and procedures
  • Document all ticket and project work
  • Ensure documentation is sufficient to yield reproducible results
  • Identify and recommend changes with existing documentation that impacts customer support
  • Identify, track, any resolve gaps in existing documentation
  • Assist in policy, security, and compliance documentation efforts when agreed upon

Project Delivery:
  • Track and complete assigned IT projects
  • Complete tasks in a timely and quality fashion
  • Adhere to implementation, quality control, and change control standards
  • Keep IT management apprised of risks to project success
  • Ensure that projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Coordinate internal resources and 3rd party/vendors for efficient execution


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent certification in computer science, information technology, or related technical field
  • Experience in a highly available environment
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity sites and processes
  • 5-7 years' experience in the implementation and support of VMWare ESX environment
  • 5-7 years' experience with Microsoft Windows Server
  • Subject Matter Expertise with all facets of data center, MDF, and IDF management; racking, cabling, power systems and cooling management, physical access control, monitoring, capacity planning
  • Subject Matter Familiarity with hyper converged technologies like Nutanix
  • Subject Matter Competency with networking technologies, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, SMTP, LDAP, NTP, etc.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to translate technical security concepts into lay terms
  • Comfort with presenting in front of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated results orientation, initiative, attention to detail, and customer service orientation
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills

Desired Qualifications:
  • VMWare VCP certification
  • Microsoft MCP or MSCE certification
  • Subject Matter Familiarity with Linux and Unix
  • Experience implementing and managing DCIM solutions
  • Experience with Green IT / sustainable computing initiatives

Special demands :
  • This position will require travel on an as-needed basis to domestic and international company locations and training events
  • The ability to physically interact with and manage IT equipment in a data center, MDF, or IDF
