What We Do
Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco believes in the power of homeownership to create generational impact. To this end, we build homes for first-time homeowners and sustain homeownership by helping vulnerable homeowners retain their home as an asset for generations to come.
The Superintendent oversees field operations related to the construction of new housing developments. They are responsible for layout and execution from foundation to finish. They will oversee and schedule subcontractors, as well as train and direct a team of Habitat apprentices, volunteers and sweat equity partners. This is a bags-on job, Tuesday-Saturday, reporting directly to the General Superintendent. Projects are in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin Counties, and construction types include 4-story stacked flats, 3-story townhomes, and mid-rise on podium.
Construction Site Management (70%)
Plan, coordinate and supervise all work on site, keeping the project on schedule
Layout critical dimensions throughout foundation, framing and site work
Develop detailed instructions for tasks and crew leaders
Formulate critical path schedules and regularly communicate volunteer needs
Generate material take-offs and schedule delivery of all materials for the project
Ensure that all work is done to code and sustainability requirements, with consistent exceptional results
Prepare for, schedule, and walk all inspections
Safeguard HGSF resources by maintaining a clean, organized and safe construction site
Take responsibility for job site safety, ensuring that all HGSF safety practices are followed
Complete daily job documentation in the form of activity logs and photos
Manage a team of Apprentice crew leaders, providing training, guidance, and regular performance feedback
Engage community volunteers in ways that uses their time effectively, positively affects the project outcome, and gives them an excellent volunteer experience. Work to develop new volunteers into skilled, regular contributors.
Reflect HGSFs Core Values in all work, building positive relationships with colleagues, homeowners, volunteers, city officials, vendors and subcontractors
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on construction experience with progressive responsibility, preferably in the SF Bay Area
Ability to read and interpret plans
Strong knowledge of framing, waterproofing and cladding systems; exposure to concrete formwork, MEP and finish carpentry
Excellent written and oral communication skills that are effective with broad audiences
Ability and desire to teach others
Excel at multi-tasking with various projects and deadlines; attention to detail a must
Proficiency with computers, MS Office suite, and ability to utilize CM software
Valid CA Drivers License
Must be able to pass background check

Works in outside conditions that occasionally include inclement weather, heat and humidity. Noise level will be loud at times. Work on heights required. Driving required.
Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina, and the ability to lift and carry at least 60 pounds, go up and down stairs and ladders, and endure the full work day on their feet. Must be able to frequently communicate in English (verbal), including hazard communication, giving and receiving trainings, working as part of a team, and supporting volunteers. Must be able to recognize and respond to potential hazards based on both visual and auditory warnings systems.
Compensation for this role is competitive, DOE.
