POSITION SUMMARY

The Textiles Manager is responsible for managing the sewing/textile department for the business. Tasks include organizing, directing and controlling daily production activities of the manufacturing center to ensure safety, quality, production and inventory goals are achieved. Works closely with the business team to increase productivity and profitability within the manufacturing operation. Advises on production schedules, work assignments and staff performance for optimum efficiency. Identifies ways for promoting morale and teamwork between employees and departments. This Managers suggestions for hiring, firing, advancement, promotion or any other change of status of other employees will be given particular weight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE

  • Oversee all stages of the textiles manufacturing process
  • Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the plant, through effective planning, organizing and directing of production activities
  • Implement efficiency strategies and action plans to ensure the plant meets production and inventory goals and standards at minimal manufacturing costs
  • Attain production schedules that meet or exceed customer expectations, while ensuring the manufacturing of products are produced efficiently, shipped safely and meet the organizations quality standards
  • Initiate plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, materials, and capital
  • Remove waste and constraints from the production process to improve efficiencies and enhance productivity
  • Collaborate with quality team to review product consistency while monitoring scrap rates to determine trends and areas of improvement as well as adhering to ISO 9001 standards.
  • Work with production planner and purchasing agents to coordinate purchasing, production and distribution of products
  • Maintain production standards and goals including minimizing scrap and improving yields
  • Oversee accountability and accuracy in production record-keeping
  • Encourage and promote operating in a continuous improvement environment
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing employees on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources.
  • Work closely with the sites leader of Safety to ensure all members of the manufacturing team are aware and abide by safety policies or order to provide a safe workplace for our employees
  • Coordinate the hiring and training of all production personnel
  • Monitor appropriate use and safety of equipment; maintain safety standards as required by law and company policy
  • Ensure sufficient on-the-job training for all production employees occurs and that authority and responsibility for each position is understood
  • Responsible for promoting and maintaining positive employee morale and teamwork
  • Provide on-going coaching and guidance to production employees. In conjunction with production supervisors, handle performance issues and disciplinary action in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Communicate to manufacturing employees regarding company/department policies, plans and programs
  • Identify professional development opportunities for subordinates
  • Supervise work assignments, develop, mentor and discipline subordinates as appropriate; provide regular performance updates and feedback and identify professional development opportunities
  • Accountable to the Plant Manager for all phases of activities
  • Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned
  • Work under general supervision



Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required; Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering or related field preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 7 years previous experience in a manufacturing plant required, including demonstrated experience with best practices in both managerial and production platforms and applications within the textile industry.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, most notably Excel, as well as internet usage, business websites and an ERP system (AX preferred)
  • Working knowledge of production, production support systems, and management and administrative policies and procedures in order to manage a diverse, multi-million dollar manufacturing program
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, and ability to get along with diverse personalities, skill levels and disabilities; tactful and even-tempered.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate people and promote teamwork
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal/external groups to achieve business results
  • Maintain employee attendance records
  • Maintain time-keeping system for employees
  • Knowledge of inventory management principles
  • Knowledge of bill of material principles
  • Knowledge of mathematics
  • Working knowledge of company policies and procedures
  • Possess a positive work attitude and a willingness to carry out instructions
  • Ability to work independently with periodic consultation and direction
  • Ability to express and share knowledge and ideas in a team environment

VISION REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE
