JOB SUMMARY:
VA Medical Center, Fayetteville, Arkansas. Fayetteville is nestled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. MAJOR DUTIES:
The Mental Health APN/PA in Primary Care performs assessments and triage of mental health consultation, crisis assessments and interventions of patients in the Primary Care clinic. This includes initial and interim histories, physicals (H&P) and mental status examinations. The Mental Health APN/PA in Primary Care will provide patient reassessments and maintenance of medication/treatment plan with consultation as appropriate with consulting physician. He/she serves as a mental health consultant to the interdisciplinary team in Primary Care and shares his/her knowledge and clinical expertise. Decisions made are based on his/her professional standards and scope of practice.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
** MUST MEET APN REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED.
Registered Nurse, 0610, Basic Requirements:
- Current active, unrestricted RN State License as a professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S. or the District of Columbia
- Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
- U. S. Citizenship required
- Direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407 (d).
- Must meet physical standards of the position. A physical examination prior to placement may be required, including the possibility of a drug screen.
- MSN or related field with a BSN and approximately 2 to 3 years of successful nursing practice is preferred.
Additional Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions:
(a) Nurse Practitioners. A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, must possess a master’s degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body.
(b) Clinical Nurse Specialists. A clinical nurse specialist must possess a master’s degree from an academic program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE with a major in the clinical nursing specialty to which the nurse is to be assigned.
(c) Must be licensed with prescriptive privileges.
Note: A Professional Standards Board will determine the selectee’s starting grade level based on the applicant’s education and experience.
Physician Assistant, VN-0603, Basic Requirements:
- Must be a Citizen of the United States.
- A bachelor’s degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); OR Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor’s degree in a health care occupation or a health-related science; or Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years.
- Certification. As of March 12, 1993, certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement for employment. This requirement does not apply to non-certified PAs on VA rolls as of that date.
- Physical Standards. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
- English Language Proficiency. PAs appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
You must have a certification, licensure, or registration credentials in licensure for this position. In some cases, these may be substituted for experience and education.
You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
