JOB SUMMARY:

Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks, Fayetteville, Arkansas. Fayetteville is nestled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. The area has four distinct seasons and is an outdoor paradise for hiking, fishing, rafting, and water sports. Fayetteville is the home of the University of Arkansas with the nationally recognized Arkansas Razorbacks. The University affords the community with a college and diverse cultural atmosphere. Walton Arts Center is a hub of cultural activities. The area is home to several fortune 500 companies including Wal-Mart headquarters, Tyson Foods, and J.B. Hunt Transport. Northwest Arkansas enjoys a low unemployment rate and a low crime rate. Fayetteville school system is excellent. Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport has direct flights to Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Houston, and Denver.

MAJOR DUTIES:

This provider will be a staff psychiatrist for the Fayetteville, Arkansas Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks. Duties will be primarily outpatient. In the outpatient setting, the psychiatrist will function as a member of a multidisciplinary team. The inpatient unit is an open general psychiatry unit. As a member of a multidisciplinary team he/she  will focus on the assessment/evaluation and medication management of veterans who suffer from a variety of mental health conditions, including, but not limited to, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, depression, anxiety and other related conditions. The incumbent will work with veterans from all theaters of service, including, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Providing clinical  assessment/evaluation of veterans with difficult and complex mental health issues and then selecting from a variety of resources and clinical approaches including non-direct and cognitive behavior therapy, behavior modification, insight oriented methods, family therapy, relaxation training, and medication management, etc. Serves as a consultant and  advisor to other professional staff and the community on the assessment, education, and treatment of veterans with complex clinical problems, such as, PTSD and war zone related stress reaction. Basic computer literacy and average typing speed is necessary as we use a paperless patient record.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States.

Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting  from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree  must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary  of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the  Association of American Medical colleges for the year in which the degree  was granted;
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American  Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted;
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of  a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of  Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

Licensure: Must possess and maintain a current, full and unrestricted  license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

First-Year Residency (Internship): Must have completed a first-year  residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs  for the year in which it was completed. Approved residencies are:

(1) Those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals,  American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency  was completed,

OR

(2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional  Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate  professional training.

Physical Standards: Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical, including the possibility of a drug screen.

English Language Proficiency: Physicians appointed to direct patient-care  positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by  38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Board Certification: Board eligible in Family Practice or Internal Medicine; however, Board Certified in either of these areas is preferred.

National Provider Identifier (NPI).  NPI will be requested prior to appointment.

You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

You must submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test before you can be appointed into this position.

You must have a certification, licensure, or registration credentials in license for this position. In some cases, these may be substituted for experience and education.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
