The sample is then placed inside the spectrometer for analyses. To start this process the technician enters a few commands through a keyboard. The results a then recorded on a data sheet. Preparation of the samples for the Leco machine consists of placing a small piece of material (less than 1g) in a crucible and inserting it in the machine. The data is then recorded on a data sheet. The Brinell testing is used to test the hardness of a casting. To perform this, test a casting is placed in the machine and held there by the technician.
