Essential Functions: Supports the operation of the lab and performs tests and analyses as requested. Maintain documentation on all tests and evaluations.
Chemical analyses: Furnace, ladle, casting, metallic scrap
T-Bars: Collection, cutting, BHN, prepare for pick-up, HT bar prep
Nodularity Check: CGI (as needed ) and Ductile (100%) during pour
Customer Profiles: prepare for testing, send to outside tensile tests, chemical analyses, BHN, microstructural preparation and review.
Defect Analyses: obtain material, sectioning, microstructural preparation and review
Sand Testing: Support for core and mold processes, Lab batches, emergency testing, LOI, moisture testing of raw materials, screen analyses, viscosity
Perform any and all other job-related tasks as assigned.
COMPETENCIES: The candidate should be able test iron samples on a spectrometer and a Leco machine, Brinell testing, and administrative work. The samples for the spectrometer and leco machine need to be prepared for analysis. To prepare the samples for the spectrometer the technician must sand one side of the plug on table sander. The sample is then placed inside the spectrometer for analyses. To start this process the technician enters a few commands through a keyboard. The results a then recorded on a data sheet. Preparation of the samples for the Leco machine consists of placing a small piece of material (less than 1g) in a crucible and inserting it in the machine. The data is then recorded on a data sheet. The Brinell testing is used to test the hardness of a casting. To perform this, test a casting is placed in the machine and held there by the technician. The machine puts a small dent in the casting, this dent is then measured with a magnifying scope, and the results are then recorded on a data sheet.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
Must have a High School diploma or a bachelors degree (BA); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
