Job Summary or Purpose:
To transport and deliver freight by driving diesel-powered tractor /trailer combinations short and long distances.

Job responsibilities are the following and not necessarily limited to:

Job Duties:
· Hook and unhook trailers from the tractor itself, including cranking lever to raise and lower landing gear on semi-trailers.
· Unload trailer, either individually or with assistance of dockworkers, with or without mechanical freight-handling equipment.
· Tarp and untarp freight. Secure and remove securing devices from freight.
· Perform frequent lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying of accessory equipment used in the tarping and securement of freight.
· Perform infrequent lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying of freight.
· Inspect truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and submit a written report on the condition of the truck at the end of each trip or tour of duty.
· Maintain appearance of truck; inside the cab at all times and outside when conditions permit.
· Check shipping papers to determine the nature of the load.
· Drive truck to destination in accordance with Federal regulations, normally in periods of up to 10 hours driving followed by an off-duty period of at least 8 consecutive hours.
· Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather or in tight loading dock areas.
· Ensure that all shipping documentation (i.e., manifest, bills of lading, shipping orders or freight bills, etc.) required to move with shipments is available for inspection and that appropriate paperwork accompanies shipment when delivered.
· Maintain records required for compliance with State and Federal regulations including driver’s logs, records of fuel purchases, mileage records, and other records required by law and the company.
· Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, and comply with all Federal, State, and local regulations for the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
· Promptly report any delays due to breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions or other emergencies, or in the event of irregularities relating to pickup or delivery of cargo.
· Report all accidents involving driver or company equipment to the office as soon as possible.

Accountabilities:
· Safe and legal operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
· Safe and timely transportation of freight from origin to destination.
· Proper unloading of freight to assure safety and minimal risk of damage to cargo and danger to persons.
· Professional representation of the company and the trucking industry through responsible driving.

Job Specifications:
· Must possess a valid class A commercial drivers license
· Must have the ability to read, write and perform simple mathematical calculations with the mental ability to handle receipts, read maps, road signs, maintain logs, etc.
· Must have working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems.
· Must have knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, and inspection and maintenance.
· Must be available for around-the-clock trips to accommodate freight movements and must be able to be away from home for extended periods of time.
· Must meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
· Must satisfactorily pass a drug test.
· Must be able to sit and remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of up to 10 hours.
· Must be able to shift a manual transmission and operate foot pedals.
· Must be able to perform occasional squatting to handle and position freight.
· Must be able to perform occasional crouching to handle and position freight.
· Must be able to enter and exit the vehicle’s cab 8 to 10 times a day. Cab level is generally from 36 to 66 inches above ground level, with entry and exit achieved with the assistance of various configurations of steps and hand holds; also requires occasional bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching and balancing.
· Must be able to perform occasional heavy lifting. Overhead lifting up to a maximum of 80 to 100 pounds. (Tarps) Frequent lifting is required of weights that range up to 75 pounds, while simultaneously moving the body in various motions.
· Must be able to carry weights that coincide with the described lifting. There will be many occasions when these weights will have to be carried from place to place in the loading/unloading procedure.
· Must be able to push/pull from moderate to maximum efforts. This is mostly restricted to tarping, moving cargo, unloading cargo (slide offs) and securing cargo.
· Must have adequate body balance to climb onto, around and over the cargo in securing it.
· Must be able to place the body in low to the ground positions to perform certain functions such as checking tire pressure, trailer brakes, and other inspection duties. (Kneeling)
· Must be able to bend, mostly to perform duties in kneeling, above. Repeated bending at the waist and lifting at the same time is required for loading/unloading duties.
· Must be able to crawl in conjunction with pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, bending and crawling duties above.
· Must have free movement of the wrist and hands.
· Must have average to excellent body coordination.
· Must be able to spend at least 3 or 4 hours standing and short periods of the day walking on surfaces such as concrete, wood, metal and sometimes on slippery and wet surfaces.
· Must be able to hook/unhook various commercial vehicle combinations, manually lower and raise landing gear, operate the fifth wheel release lever, climb into and out of vehicles, fuel vehicles and check engine oil and coolant levels.

Working Conditions:
· Driver will be required to work in many different conditions in various geographical locations across the nation. Drivers are subject to irregular work schedule. Drivers must be able to work indoors as well as outdoors, and in temperatures from –20 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, plus or minus. In dry climates as well as wet climates.
· Drivers will be required to work in confined areas and from heights of trailer level to possible maximum heights of 13 feet.
· Drivers may be subject to tight delivery schedules, delays in route and other stresses and fatigue related to driving a large commercial motor vehicle on crowded streets and highways in all kinds of weather. While driving, operators are exposed to noise and vibration levels higher than those experienced in passenger cars.
· Most of the duty hours will be spent working alone. Driver must be reasonably organized to think out simple problems and perform adequately to accomplish every day tasks.

Education/Experience (Minimum required.):
Minimum of 2 years commercial vehicle driving experience. Can by reason of experience, training, or both safely operate the type of commercial motor vehicle that he/she will drive.

VACATION/PERSONAL DAY POLICY
One personal day will be accrued on January 1st, April 1st, July 1st and October 1st after 90 days of full-time employment.

CSMI is an employee owned company and employees receive stock allocations based on a percentage of wages in years they qualify based on the details of the plan.

401(k)
A 401(k) plan is in place for all employees who want to participate. The company will match 100% of the first 4% of wages the employee contributes to 401(k). An employee is eligible to enter the plan at the beginning of each quarter after the 90-day probationary period. Vesting in the company contribution is over a period of six years in which the participant works at least 1,000 hours per year. The employee is always 100% vested in his own contributions.

EDUCATION ASSISTANCE

Therefore, we created our educational assistance program to encourage employees to maintain and improve their job-related skills through formal education. Our educational assistance program is available to all full-time employees who have completed 90 calendar days of service and meet the guidelines of our Education Assistance Policy.
