Brief Description of the Job
Under general supervision of the Community Programs Manager, oversees the academic/tutorial component of the community center afterschool program. Works closely with parents, schools, volunteers, and community center staff, to track and evaluate student academic performance. Monitors student behavior and work performance via progress reports and report cards. Evaluates each student to determine academic and behavioral areas in need of improvement and provides tools necessary for students below average to enhance performance. Prepares monthly reports to reflect program attendance, special events, and lesson plans and submits to the Community Programs Manager.
- Job Duties
Coordinate Afterschool Program (90%): Coordinate the academic/tutorial component of the community center afterschool program. Prepare assignments, lesson plans, and character education programs related to grade level and individual learning levels to increase comprehension of classroom education programs and assigned school homework. Prepare life skills programs to help with social and classroom etiquette. Communicate and work with Community Center Supervisors to acquire materials and supplies necessary for programs, as well as to keep them informed of program plans and objectives. Assist with and/or plan educational field trips as assigned. Prepare monthly reports/newsletters by monitoring program attendance, volunteers, special events, and field trips. Conduct pre and post-test for students in order to track progression throughout the program. Report all information, including monthly academic and life skills lessons to Community Programs Manager.
Communicate with School Officials & Student Guardians (10%): Communicate with teachers, principals, and other academic officials in the schools serving afterschool program students in order to enhance resources related to afterschool program goals and objectives and enhance understanding of specific student needs. Communicate performance and progress with student parents and/or guardians.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Formal Education: Bachelor`s degree or equivalent in Education is required.
Experience: Over one year of experience in teaching is required.
Driver`s License Required: Class D South Carolina license.
Certifications and Other Requirements: Certified Teacher or over two years of teaching experience is required.
Overall Strength Demands: Light strength demands include exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly AND/OR walking or standing to a significant degree.
Continuously requires vision, hearing, and talking. Occasionally requires standing, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, and twisting. Rarely requires crawling and pushing/pulling.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, and Work Aids: Copier, fax machine, telephone, and calculator.
Computer Equipment and Software: Computer and related software.
Overall Working Conditions: Satisfactory: Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
Environmental Factors: None.
Health and Safety: Occasional exposure to communicable diseases.
Primary Work Location: Classroom Environment.
Protective Equipment Required: None.
Frequently requires time pressures, occasional change of tasks, frequent performing multiple tasks simultaneously, rarely irregular schedule/overtime, frequent working closely with others as part of a team. Occasionally requires tedious or exacting work, noisy/distracting work environment, and emergency situations.
