GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Responsible for performing pulmonary function diagnostic testing.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to Clinical Services Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Completes full range of pulmonary function testing including: assessing patient status prior to testing and obtains signed consent; instructs patients and demonstrates breathing maneuvers t obtain optimal results; performs standard diagnostic tests of lung function; performs tests to measure lung function during exercise; administers medications following clinic policy; performs tests pre/post administration of specific medications.
2. Operates a variety of equipment and records data. Maintains laboratory and equipment following infection control procedures. Ensures availability by regular troubleshooting and repair service.
3. Prepares data for interpretation and documents in patient chart and pulmonary function files. Completes necessary reports to compile with regulations. Maintains procedure manual.
4. Administers other respiratory therapy modalities as necessary and monitors effects of therapy.
5. Adheres to all policies, procedures, and confidentiality issues. The job holder must demonstrate competencies applicable with job position.
EDUCATION:
Associate degree. Completion of approved course in respiratory therapy or cardiopulmonary technology.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one year respiratory therapy experience.
REQUIREMENTS:
Current State of Florida license. CPR certified.
KNOWLEDGE:
1. Knowledge of pulmonary function/respiratory therapy techniques and protocols.
2. Knowledge of how to operate a variety of respiratory equipment.
3. Knowledge in instructing patients in correct procedures for optimal results.
SKILLS:
1. Skill in accurate testing and data interpretation.
2. Skill in appropriate educational techniques with patients.
3. Skill in assuming responsibility for safety factors.
4. Skill in using various pulmonary equipment.
ABILITIES:
1. Ability to function effectively in medical emergency.
2. Ability to work cooperatively with team, patients and families.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Medical office exam and treatment rooms. Exposure to conditions common to clinic setting.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Combination of standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching. Must be able to move and work with variety of equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
