Description:
Under general supervision is responsible for skilled repair, installation, modification, maintenance and operation of electrical systems and equipment at the wastewater treatment plants in accordance with permits, regulations and policies and performs other related assigned duties.

Pay Grade: AT-32 / Salary Range: $2,997 - $5,190/Mo.

Essential Job Functions:
Directs and schedules the work of electricians and other staff performing electrical and electronic installations, maintenance and repair;

Reads and analyzes blueprint diagrams and schematics of manufactured electrical systems;

Performs work as an electrical journeyman on the City’s wastewater treatment plant systems, including 13,200 volt power distribution systems, transformers, switchgears and motor control centers;

Creates, directs and monitors an in-house electrical safety program in conformance with City policy and ODOL regulations;

Makes recommendations for modifications or additions to improve existing electrical and electronic systems, directing implementation of approved recommendations;

Responsible for 24 hour operation of wastewater treatment plant electrical and electronic systems to comply with federal, state and local operating permits;

Reviews specifications and engineered drawings for conformance with NEC and current technology;

Orders and maintains an inventory of essential parts and supplies;

Prepares complete and accurate reports of planned, current and completed electrical work;

Trains electricians, technicians and others involved in electrical work;

Maintains a 13,200 voltage distribution system and all wastewater facility electrical equipment;

Leads a small number of employees in lower classifications.

Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in electrical/electronic technology or a related field, and four (4) years experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of electrical systems and equipment, including two (2) years as a class “A” Journeyman Electrician with lead experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience per Personnel Policies and Procedures, Section 128.

Comprehensive knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools and equipment of the electrical trade; comprehensive knowledge of the maintenance, repair, testing and hazards of a 13,200 voltage electrical distribution system; comprehensive knowledge of occupational hazards of the electrical trade and appropriate precautionary safety measures; considerable knowledge of electronic circuitry and the principles, tools and equipment used to repair and maintain; considerable knowledge of the installation, maintenance, modification, repair and testing of heavy industrialized electrical systems and equipment; and good knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers. Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, diagrams and schematics; ability to diagnose, locate and repair defects in complex electrical, mechanical and electronic systems and equipment; ability to work with high voltages; ability to make time and material estimates; ability to perform heavy work in adverse weather conditions for prolonged periods of time; ability to work from an aerial lift, extension ladders and heights; ability to train and lead the work of others; and the ability to understand and influence the behavior of others within the organization, customers or the public in order to achieve job objectives and cause action or understanding. Applicant must be skilled in the use and care of electrician tools and electrical equipment.

Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a Class “A” Journeyman Electrician's License as issued by the City of Tulsa and the State of Oklahoma; employees will be required to obtain a valid Class "D" Water/Wastewater License as issued from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) within six (6) months of hire date; in addition, the City of Tulsa requires the employee to obtain a Class "C" Water/Wastewater License as issued from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) within eighteen (18) months of hire date; and a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Working Environment:
Working environment is primarily outdoors and in inclement weather and occasionally indoors. May be exposed to the following: hazardous materials, animal waste/dead animals, flammable liquids, traffic, cramped work areas, suspended catwalk areas, excessive heights and dust, weather/temperature extremes, trench excavations, underground gas/electric/petroleum/water/wastewater lines, rough terrains, cutting/chipping/grinding, sewage, damp/wet surfaces, snow/ice covered surfaces, insect bites, poisonous plants, overhead power lines, confined spaces, high voltages and noise areas; and may be required to work overtime and be on 24 hour standby.

Hours: 7:00am – 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
