SALARY RANGE: $75,000 - $97,000
Base salary is determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.

CLOSING DATE: This position will close on October 29, 2017.

LOCATION: Rapid City, SD

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
As the Electric Utility Technical Training Program Manager, identify, develop, coordinate and track regulatory required safety/technical training topics related to power generation, transmission and distribution. Utilize systematic approach to training to develop and maintain training materials and schedules. Develop evaluation instruments and collect trainee and stakeholder feedback for program improvements. The position may require extended periods of time at the customer site.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Technical Training & OQ Manager

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Implement a systematic approach in the development and implementation of regulatory required (OSHA, etc.) safety/technical training for approximately 150 electric utility field operations employees.
  • Manage and ensure that the electric utility safety/technical training programs are being implemented and supported at all level.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of applicable electric utility safety policies and procedures and ensure they are appropriately covered in applicable safety/technical training programs
  • Develop an efficient and effective strategy for the delivery of safety/technical training to electric utility field operations employees.
  • Develop a comprehensive approach to continuously review, audit and improve applicable electric utility safety/technical training programs.
  • Maintain appropriate and consistent coordination with Safety Department personnel as well as maintain appropriate interactions with all levels of electric utility management including supervisors, managers, directors and vice presidents.
  • Provide relative and timely safety/technical training metrics to electric utility leadership.
  • Provide support to training process unique to electrical training including customer contacts to represent Safety and Technical Training services.
  • Meet continuing technical, professional and instructional requirements by adhering to a self-development plan.
  • Fully utilize business processes (scorecard, manufacturing-analysis, design, development, delivery and evaluation) project management, and daily management.
  • Consult with customer to identify business needs and objectives. Provide customer contact for training services, products and programs.
  • Design effective instruments and perform statistical analysis to evaluate overall training effectiveness.
  • Promote and instill strong safety culture and expectations in all phases of company operations.
  • Ability to conceptualize and explain technical theories, functions or procedures clearly and accurately.
  • Coordinate and facilitate special projects.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides professional services elsewhere in the company’s energy business, as requested.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Works with Safety Department and Technical Training Team.
  • Works with all levels of the Electric Utility Business.
  • Contact with vendors, suppliers, and industry associations.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 7 years practical experience in technical field (Journeyman Lineman and/or substation).
  • Must have strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Must know and apply OSHA/safety practices to industry standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to effectively use Microsoft Office applications.

EDUCATION:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Engineering, Safety, Education or technical field related to the subject(s) in which the individual will provide instruction is preferred, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent technical knowledge is required (specialized trade school, instructor certification, military training, journeyman training).

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Demonstrated technical and operational expertise.
  • Utilize safe work practices to ensure customer and employee safety.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to effectively use Microsoft Office applications.

SKILLS/ABILITY/OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Effective presentation, facilitation, and training skills.
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize and explain technical theories, functions or procedures clearly and accurately.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Team player and demonstrated ability to effectively lead in such an environment.

CERTIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS:

  • A valid driver’s license with a safe driving record is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel, some overnight, is required.
  • System-wide travel up to 25%.
